Low/no Carb Pure Whey Protien Powder

Recommended Posts

Wanting something to use After surgery

At the Vitamin Shoppe they have a couple powders I was thinking about trying for after surgery and wanted to see If anyone else had used them before.

1. Isopure Zero Carb, avail in vanilla, chocolate and Unflavored. These have 200 Calories for 2 scoops and 50 Grams of Protein which is pretty good! It is also Lactose free, sugar free. This is also completely pure whey Protein and all impurities have been removed and dissolves extremely easy with a spoon and is clear (because its pure) when mixed with Water.

2. whey to go- vanilla bean Whet Protein powder

1 scoop has 70 calories, 16 grams protein, and 1 gram of carbs. Lactose free, 1 gram sugar.

3. EAS 100% Pure Whey Protein Vanilla

It's completely pure and instantized like the Isopure Zero so it mixes well with just a spoon and no lumps. 1 scoop has 130 calories, 23 Grams of Protein and 3 grams of Carbs. Not lactose free and 1 gram of sugar.

These are the 3 I am most interested in trying after reading but like I said, I wanted to hear from others and see if anyone has tried any of these, especially the first one.

I also tried a sample pack of Visalus shakes and EWW! It did not dissolve well even using a whisk AND shaking! And they are super expensive to not dissolve well. I want something that will be easy to dissolve.

Thanks!

Johnathan

First off, it's gotta be said even before your surgery the human body is only capable of absorbing 20-27grams of protien at one sitting. So all this stuff that advertises 40-50grams should be taken in 1-2 doses or less.

Unfortunately I haven't tried any of the supplements you've listed so I'm not much help there. I can however tell you that the 2 top recommendations from ppl on this board are Unjury® protien powders (chicken Soup flavor is most popular) & Syntrax® nectar ( fuzzy navel seems to be most popular)

Good to know, so only one scoop needed on anything over about 25g per scoop otherwise your wasting it.

Really? chicken Soup powder to drink? I don't think I could stomach it just thinking about it LOL. Now the fuzzy navel sounds great! Maybe I'll check into that one. Thanks for the reply!

I myself didn't like the unjury cream of chicken Soup but I think there is an Unjury chicken broth that is suppose to be good.

One thing you need to know before surgery is what you like pre-surgery you may not like after surgery. Taste buds change.

I was a long time drinker of Pure Protein 100% Whey Frosty chocolate from Target. Has 25 grams of Protein. I drank it for Breakfast and sometimes lunch for 6 months pre-approval before surgery. When I was made to go on New Directions for the 2 week pre-op I hated it...and really wanted my old shakes back, and once I had purchased Muscle Milk Light to try to replace some of those New Directions.

Now I suffer with the Pure Protein and I have two huge tubs of it left lol. Actually the smell and taste of chocolate makes me kind of gag now.

I'm hoping this changes back eventually. I think this is one of my biggest surprises after surgery. For someone that loved her morning shake to actually struggle with it.

Good luck. I have spent a ton of money on different types of shakes and it's become ridiculously expensive. I'm going to purchase the synthrax nectar sample pack next, because I need $ for new underwear that don't fall off me, and clothes I don't need to put safety pins and all these shakes I keep buying and not liking are adding up.

Thanks for the input. I don't plan on buying a big tub of anything before surgery. I'm going to buy singles/sample packs of what I want to try rather than completely wasting hundreds of dollars.

The unjury chicken broth was a life saver for me after surgery. You will get tired of all the sweet tasting Protein powder so it's nice to have something that's a little more savory. I also use their unflavored Protein Powder so I can put it into other things. The only thing about it is that you can't have the temp of your Water be greater than 130 degrees or it will clump. If you go to their website you can order a sample pack that also comes with a thermometer.

I also like sytranx nectar - the Cappuccino flavor makes me feel a bit like I'm having a latte.

If you are at the Vitamin Shoppe check out both the Isopure ready to drink and the Cytosport whey isolate ready to drink - they are great when you don't want that "thick" taste of a shake.

I know that a lot of people bought Protein before the surgery and found out after the surgery, they hated it. I personally have the Isopure vanilla and use it for cooking with. It tastes really great. But during the day, I love drinking the Premium chocolate shake. I purchase it at costco or Sam's club. :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
