But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6

Recommended Posts

I know exactly how you feel. No offense to you older sleevers ;) but the majority of the people in my support group at the hospital are older. Most of them say "as long as I'm healthy' date=' I don't care what size I am." Am I a little vain to want something MORE? I usually say the same spiel they do just so I don't look like an ungrateful "youngster." Lol. I tell people I would be happy to be a size 8 or 10, but I secretly want to be a 4 or 6. ;)[/quote']

I'm old. At 55 I fully agree with the op. I have several co-morbidities, I also have scleroderma CREST and Menieres disease. I want them all to be gone or at least well controlled for sure. That being said, even with the different dx I have I am focused mainly on my size. When I get it down the rest will follow as much as they can. The dream and goal is a single digit size no matter how silly and vain it might sound. I don't think you have to be in your 20s to want to know you look good. In fact, speaking for myself I probably want it more because I have suffered with weight issues longer that the 20 something's with the same problem.

Me also, 2x!!! I'm just about 50 and I've never NOT been fat. 40 years is a long time to be fat, and goshdarnit, I am OVER it and want a single digit size too!!!

When I told my support group that my goal was to be in a size 5, there were eye rolls and gasps that I even brought up something like that. Then I explained that I know that it may be unrealistic to get to that size (esp since I am rather tall) but once I reach goal why do I have to stop working so hard at that point? Why can't I go further? If my body wont let me then I will try to maintain. Then it seemed as if others were more accepting.

Now, keep in mind this is a large support group like 50+people. I was being completely honest and not sugar coating anything about my expectations. I expect that I will reach goal. I WANT to go beyond goal, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I confess, I really want to get to a comfortable size S in tops and now that I'm in a size 6 pants I want to be a size 4. But last night when my elbow bumped by hip bone, it really hurt. LOL I love your honestness and all of us concur rather we realize it or not. Thanks for this post. :)

I'm 39 years old. I turn 40 in November. I had surgery May 16th. My starting weight was 246. I am now 230. I'm not going to lie, I want to be in single digits my 40th birthday! I will work hard to get there and even harder to stay there. When I was 165 I wore a 10-12. So I know I can rock the single digits under that. And I can guarantee you will hear me screening, if I get to a size 6! Just being real.

Heck Yeah! I want to be a 6 . I did it for health issues too I was a 39 BMI with 2 comorbidities.. But honestly what finally made me do something was my unhappiness with my body.I am 33 and dang it I wanna be all cute again! At a size 6 I will not be skinny I am 5'2.5 but I will look cute and still have curves in the right areas:) When I am wearing my six maybe I will try for a 4 who knows :P

Since I know that size numbers are all fiction especially these days with rampant vanity sizing, I instead have a "vanity" goal of scale numbers. Knowing my genetics, what my Mother and Grandmothers weighed at this age and roughly similar heights, I think it is perfectly reasonable at 5'3" to -after plastics- weight 124 pounds or less.

I want to be a 6 but I have a weight goal too and I will be 130 or less wether that makes me a 6 or if at that weight I am bigger than a 6 I will still shoot for it.I am an 8 right now with 25 till my goal so we shall see.I wish I was built like my mom but I am not she is a 2 with tiny everything.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
