I'm 2 months out and craved a Pepsi. Finally gave in with one with lots of ice. Be ready to be uncomfortable and burpy. I know I'll get a slap on my hand for doing this but I had to ;)

NOOOOOO!!!! Don't do it. This is a very hotly debated topic on whether or not carbonation will stretch your sleeve. My surgeon forbids it because of that. The way I see it...if something is going to endanger the effectiveness of my sleeve...it's GONE!! I was a serious soda addict, but I don't care now that I have given it up. The craving is gone. There is no redeeming features to it anyway. Anything that can clean battery acid off of car parts? hehe...ya....lose it!! ;)

I NEVER drink soda unless I use this little trick I learned. Of course it should be diet soda, that goes without saying but take the soda and ice and put it into your blender bottle-you know the kind with the metal ball that blends our Protein drinks- and shake it vigorously for about a minute until it goes completely flat. It takes ALL the carbonation out and you are left with an ice cold diet coke without the bubbles that could stretch your sleeve. I works for me if I get an itch for a soda but don't want to break any rules. As a matter of fact this technique was listed on my post-op diet instructions under the beverage options.

How far are you out? If youre 6 weeks out, I personally think you should try it if you want. the first time I tried it, I was 6 weeks out, it hurt me and it tasted way too sickly sweet. I dont have any desire to try it again after that :)

I would just stay away from it. Even diet soda is so bad for you that you really don't want to get back into the habit of drinking it again.

I was told the fear is not to stretch the sleeve, but to cause ulcers. You really don't have any more stomach to cut away should you ulcerate it now. I'd err on the side of caution, personally.

I was a total diet pepsi person all my life. I have read studies where diet coke and coke cause weight gain. The chemicals are horrible. So I decided to get the sleeve and to have a healthier life style. I have gone organic and basically eat the healthiest of foods. Afterall I choose to eat leas and healthier! Not enough room in my stomach for junk. :)

I was a huge Mt. Dew junkie. We the talking 3-6 20oz a day. One day after surgery I took a drink of my husbands what I thought was tea and got a swig of Coke. It was HORRIBLE! The bubbles came back up it burnt like battery acid. It tasted horrible. Its not worth it. I don't understand the shake it up thing. It would just taste like flat sugar to me. I would say don't do it, but everyone has their own story.

Ya, for me, the fizz and burn was the addiction!

I was a diet coke addict up until 2006 when I had my lapband surgery. I quit cold turkey. I went years without drinking any soda. Then, a few months ago I was so thirsty and had a sip of my daughters coke. It made me feel completely uncomfortable and tasted sickenly sweet. And yet, I drank some more. Now, I am in the process of once again weening myself off of the stuff. I actually allowed myself to get back to where I was drinking several a day. Wise choice? Nope, but I didn't get fat by making wise choices to begin with, and it can be easy to slip into old habits. Fortunately, I acknowledge that this is a bad habit to allow myself to get back into. Yesterday, I woke up and decided my primary goal for this week is to once again eliminate all soda from my life. So far, so good. But I admit, even though they make me uncomfortable, I am seriously jonesing for a coke right now, but, I will not give in!

Thank you so much everyone for the responses! !! I appreciate it more then you know:)

Not having pop is very hard for me but you are all right it is a bad habit that i do not want to start again. For those that can drink it you are so lucky, and have a sip for me. ;p

What kind of things does everyone drink to take the place of pop? I am getting burnt out on Powerade and G2. Btw...I drink tons of Water so that is not an issue :)

I gave up pop when I had my surgery-a total of 10 whole days! Lol. Seriously though, I do not ever want to be addicted to it like I have been. I couldn't get through the day without one. After all the Vitamin Water I drink, I couldn't hold one more ounce at this point. Hopefully it will stay that way!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
