Eating the wrong food and not losing weight...

I know how everyone loves the people that complain that they are not losing weight but then confess that they are eating the wrong foods. And I may just join those ranks... but it is with an honest issue attached.

Since my last fill, I have had trouble eating solid foods and found myself eating crap... because that is all that will go down. Needless to say, I have not been losing weight.

I CAN eat mashed potatoes, ground meat (sometimes), Soups, pudding, shakes, ice cream, boiled veggies, and some chips.

I CAN NOT eat chicken, steak, bread, tortillas, pork rinds, Cereal, salad, eggs, potatoes, and here recently Beans. (And I have found this out the hard way.)

Is this normal? HOW in the world do I live this way??? Really frustrated at this point. Don't know what to do. When I have had a hard day, not getting anything down, I tend to go towards ice cream (low carb), or something else that will go down.

I just wish someone would tell me what to do... because I am hungry.

Sounds like you are overfilled. You should be able to eat hard Proteins with your band. My only other advise is that you absolutely masticate the food before swallowing. Does it help to drink hot fluids before trying to eat?

How does things like tuna, chicken salad etc work?

Sorry you're having such a time of it. Some of it could still be the learning curven involved with re-learning how to eat. I hope you get better soon!

I have been going down this same path for months now. I could not keep the proper foods down and managed to gain 8 pounds. I had an EGD done to make sure everything is OK with the band and had an unfill. I have gone 4 days now with eating the protein again and have lost 2 pounds. It is still hard not to eat those friendly foods. I would look into having some removed from your band and see if it helps. Good Luck

liquid Protein??? Yes. I can do that. Will need to do it until Wednesday to get all the cravings out of my system. I will mix up my shakes and take them with me tomorrow. Maybe that will help my tummy settle down. Then I will try again. If hard protein does not work after that... I will go for an unfill. I don't want to do that, but may have to for my sanity.

It is really amazing how the crap goes down so easy. Wish that was the thing that caused the pain.

If you cant eat healthy foods, you're too tight, pure and simple.

My personal theory (which may or may not be right, lol) is that I think most people have to face up to a point where they cannot hasten their weightloss anymore (by more fills) without risking their longer term health and living on a less than perfect diet. Its important just to accept that at some point in time, slower weight loss is going to be the trade off for continuing to be able to eat adequately. That's the time to add in some really serious exercise and to be sure you keep the fat down and really watch what you eat.

so.......here's to leaving the CRAP out of our lives....back to basics....

I'm going on liquid Protein for a few days to reinvigorate my self discipline....want to come along???

I'll come along on your journey! This is exactly what I was thinking! I don't want to lapse into old habits!

re: "amazing how the crap goes down so easy. Wish that was the thing that caused the pain"

....It is, Poodles.....it is.....the pain takes years to accumulate and years to get rid of.....and the complexities of learning how to undo what 'the crap' does to us mentally, physically, emotionally, in habit and in spirit, depleting us of the richness of our Lives and very SELVES........IS the pain...

You always have such a way with words, Jack!

Jack: I failed at the Protein thing. Have had a rough week. Did fine on Monday with no carbs, Tuesday could not eat anything until I tried mashed potatoes, and then today I went off the deep end because I was wide open. I really don't think I am overfilled, my band is just fickle. Here is how my week went... tell me what you think...

Monday:

B: Protein shake

L: 5 Meatballs (.5 oz each) and 1/4 cup broccoli and cheese

D: 1/2 cup chili (My receipe: 3 lbs ground meat, 2 cans Beans, 1 pack williams chili seasoning, and cheese to top)

S: Druggie pudding (SF Jello Pudding with crushed up meds)

Tuesday:

B: Protein Shake

L: 1/4 Meatball and 1 bite broccoli... then PB

D: 2 bites tapalia filet and 2 bites avacado... then threw up...actual hurl

S: 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and druggie pudding... I was hungry.

Wednesday:

B: 1 chocolate cake donut

L: 1/2 Subway Sandwich (meat and veggies only), 4 cheetoes, and 3 Cookies

D: 1/2 cup leftover chili with cheese, 6 yogurt covered pretzels.

And I still need to eat my druggie pudding...

I REALLY don't think I am overfilled, because some days I can eat regular "bandster meals". I just don't understand...

Everything will be okay, Just take it slow and easy...Protien shakes are great ! and i like cambell's beef soup the kind you heat and sip, there great ! and helps when your craving protien. Good Luck !!!...Virginia:)

so....I'm looking for a new T-shirt:

"Carpe mañana"

LOL Jack. Frequently I type LOL when I want someone to know I'm amused - this time, I really did laugh out loud!

You certainly have a way with words.

I am with ya! I have been banded since 09-05 and I stopped losing in 04-06 around the time I went on a camping trip and I had to eat differently that weekend and never got back on track. That is also the same time I stopped exercising. But I have started exercising this week, again! And my body is so sore!!! :P But it is a good sore! And I am trying to eat better, I just hope that I haven't messed anything up (slippage) by not eating the right things. I had a fill on 07-12-06 and it is the tightest I have been and I can eat almost anything...what is up with that?? So I am going to do my best and I am going to go through my pantry and get rid of stuff that I have brought back in to the house and get it out! So far today I have had about 4 cups of coffee (yes, 4!) one bottle of water, for breakfast a sausage, egg, cheese biscuit from McD's and they messed up my order and I didn't know until I got to work! :angry That was not what I wanted but I ate the egg, sausage and part of biscuit. For lunch...I ran to Walmart and bought some bell peppers! I have been craving bell peppers bad lately. So I sliced up a red and orange pepper and dipped them in dessing. That was lunch! I guess there are worse things to crave (chocolate!) I just pray that the bad stuff that I have been eating has not made something bad happen to my band. I feel fine, no pain but I have gained about 4-5 pounds back. :think So add those pounds back to the ticker......:angry . Worried too....any advice for me, anyone?

Hi Kathy,

It sounds like you have your head screwed on straight and you are making good decisions with your diet. Thats a great move to clean out your pantry of all the tempting junk that you know will keep you from losing again. Everything on your diet sounded good except the biscuit part for me but that is only b/c my body stores EVERY MORSEL of carb that I eat and I don't lose. I can eat high Protein with a decent amt of fat though and still lose though so that is what I stick to. You have taken the first step by realizing that you had slipped back into your old ways so you're on the right track. THats the beauty of the band-whenever you are ready to get serious with it, its there for you. I am sure the scale will move for you if you keep it up. Good luck to you and congrats on your weight loss in the past year! :biggrin1:
