Oh, and at one sitting, I can eat maybe 3 oz. That is it. Yesterday I had 3 oz. of tuna and some came back up. It was too much :(

We are all different. I can keep minced beef down but not fish, with the exception of canned tuna which I mix with cottage cheese. I have not yet tried chicken but plan to this weekend. Mashed potatoes have been firmly rejected. Hummus gave me heartburn as did pureed lentils. Beans have worked. Mashed avocado has been the best meal!

You are so right we are all different. It is amazing what our stomachs (aliens) will accept and reject daily. It is truly a guessing game at the beginning to see what will happen with each meal.

Yes, the guessing game is certainly a challenge and tiring! I try to plan what I'll be eating the day before, or at least the morning of. But often, "best laid plans" just don't work out! And my husband is pretty much cooking and eating for himself, so sometimes it's a bit lonely. We're not hungry on the same schedule, and when I do sit and eat with him, I have 2-3 bites and he has a whole plateful. I'm always done long before he is, and sitting there watching him eat is kind of weird.

I'm a bit less than 5 weeks out, so yes, I know, still in healing and transition. Patience was never one of my strong suits! I'm doing my best though...and 34 lbs down (including preop loss of 11 lbs). So I'm hanging in there!

:)

Nice to see what works as I was sleeved on 5/28 so a little behind you. But the only soft foods I've tried so far that went down ok was ...

Baby Bel cheese -- I eat real small portions and chewed well.

Oikos Greek yogurt -- The Lime flavor tasted like dessert :-)

One that was'nt bad but wasn't smooth sailing either:

Tried Egg salad ( small amt ) and felt like I had 2 servings @ Thanksgiving dinner!

Aliens- heehee! Love it!!!

I start the soft stuff in a few days. Looking forward to it. I'm on Protein Shakes and 0 calorie liquids right now.

Reading these threads helps b/c I'm seeing that I need to go VERY slow and even tho I have ideas on what I'm looking forward to trying, that it may not all work out the way I hope.

Thank you!

You are so welcome. Yes take it very slow. What works one day will not work the next. I have found if I eat something one day and then try to reheat or eat the leftovers the next it does not work. My friend called our stomachs aliens and I thought it was so fitting. It seems to have a mind of its own with its own agenda. We can only hope the alien is happy lol.

I have turned my eating obsession into a cooking obsession. I cook all the time for my family and I sit and watch them eat after I take a bite or 2 if I can eat it. I get my pleasure from making them healthy dishes that they like now instead of shoving food in my mouth. I have no appetite anyway so it does not bother me at all that I am not eating. I just sit and socialize with them while they are eating. My husband started fo feel bad about eating in front of me but I finally convinced him I am not hungry. I am right with you on your surgery timeline and it is difficult but hopefully will get better soon.

:)

I was sleeved on June 1st and last Friday was put on, what my program calls it, Stage 4 foods last week. Stage 4 is moist, ground meat, lite cheeses, etc. Well, that didn't agree with my tummy. I found myself in the ER Monday night and had a two day sleepover at the hospital along with an exploratory surgery to see what was causing the crushing pain in my stomach. Good news is that my stomach was only inflamed and nothing was leaking. Bad news is that I now have four more weeks of a liquid diet. My surgeon said he was seeing some sleevers who had to be on a liquid diet a lot longer than the other type surgeries. So, take it easy everyone who is looking forward to their next phase of diet. I still dream of the day when I can enjoy a small slice of pizza and a salad <------ my all time favorite meal. I'm a pretty cheap date.

So sorry you had that experience! 4 more weeks of liquids would drive me insane. But think of how much weight you'll lose (....looking for the upside here....).

As to being a cheap date...I told my husband I'm the cheapest date ever now. He doesn't have to buy me a drink (I'd get bombed on 1/2 an alcoholic drink now, I'm sure). And if I was REALLY hungry, he could take me to costco on "sample" day. It would be like a buffet, and I'd be full after about 3 tasting stations!

LOL. Cheapest date EVER.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
