June Surgery Pre-Op Diets Encouragement/vents

Good morning June Sleevers.

I know everyone has different doctors & each one of us will be expected to do something different for their pre-op diet.

I started my first day of 14 day New Direction (3x's a day) pre-op diet. I picked two variety packs with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, hot cocoa, cream of chicken Soup, plus I picked a few boxes of the strawberry, chocolate and chocolate with Fiber which may help a bit. This morning I had the hot cocoa, it was kind of whatever tasting, it's mixed with Water. I'm used to drinking the Pure Protein 100% whey Protein Frosty shake with Skim Milk, which I absolutely love and have had for Breakfast every day for the last 6 months. I can't wait until post-op to go back to them lol.

I went to the grocery store this morning and picked up sugar-free Propel (Black Cherry), Sugar-Free Popsicles and Sugar-Free Jello, another box of Truvia and some Decaff tea.

I weighed myself this morning after my decaff & hot cocoa. I gained three pounds since yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday I had my normal breakfast shake, I had a Turkey Sandwich & Broccoli Cheddar Soup from Potbelly for dinner as my last food. I normally only get their salad but decided to actually eat bread, though I have avoided for a while now. I had a few oyster crackers for snack with Peanut Butter and was still under 900 calories and gained three pounds. Yeah...this is going to be a fun fourteen days. The way my silly metabolism works, I hope I don't gain weight within the next 14 days!

Does anyone have anything special planned for Memorial Day Weekend next week? Normally I have a huge BBQ here and we normally open up the pool at my house. Since only my parents, husband and son know, and I haven't told my siblings, this is going to be the first year I don't have a party. They all know I'm having hernia surgery and getting some scar tissue removed, but they don't know about the sleeve, so nobody will be too disappointed, but I still feel bad that I'm not having a party. Next year will be here in no time though.

Good luck to you all, it's getting closer. If anyone is nervous or excited or needs encouragement, please feel free to share.

Trying a cup of twinings mint tea w Splenda. The "head hunger" is messing w me a little today. I saw in another thread that a postop sleever found this soothing to her new tummy, so I thought I'd give it a try. Kinda nice.

Day 3 and 4 are the hardest days. I had a headache and I was off caffeine for over a month before I started my preop. I was allowed only 3 shakes a day and sf jello & popsicles. I got no extra's like vegies boo. One thing that seemed to help me (and I swear to you, it helped me the day after surgery and every day since) is Celestrial Seasonings Peppermint Tea (decaff) and Truvia (for those that like Truvia) - I can't handle splenda, aspartamane or any of the other stuff. It seems to calm down the cravings and crampings in the belly. It was literally what I lived on in the hospital.

Today is day six of my preop diet. The first 48 hours were the hardest! My nut says to eat lettuce, cucumbers annd celery as well as tomatoes, but to keep carbs under 30gm. I am allowed nonfat creamy soups and a teaspoon of peanut butter if i cant shake thehunger. I am taking the profect bullets to keep up my protien intake at 100+gm per day. My nut doesnt like them but they are easier for me, i feel bad that i am not following instructions but i am lactose intolerant and i can not see myself adding unjury to my salad. I made a batch of soup with the 3 oz of meat i am allowed for the week, i can not stand the canned soups, so i was so glad to see this thread and find that i am not the only one struggling. Love you all :)

Mina~. It was your post! I couldn't remember where I read it. Although my tea is another brand, I made sure it was decaf. I did buy several other herbal celestial seasonings flavors. They do help with the cravings. I figured I may like the warmth and it can help me pass postop gas. Thanks for checking in on us. Our final week countdown has begun.

My official pre-op diet starts on Friday. To ease myself into it I started Lil Miss Diva's back to basics boot camp today. I wasn't that bad. Definitely had some head hunger and some real hunger as I failed to prepare for an extended time that I would be out of the house. But I made it! Let's see what tomorrow brings...

I slipped up.and had a whole.10oz steak anf baby potatoes and a couple bites.of.cheesecake. Plus I.still have 5 more lbs to.loose and five days to do.it. ..... God help me

I am on day three. I am so tired. I am on two weeks full and clear liquids only. I can not tolerate any shakes. I am living on isopure. I hope I don't get sick of it too fast. I am not hungry which is really weird. I figured I would be starving. I added up my calories today and I only had 360 which why I am tired I guess. But since I am not hungry I stop eating after I get all of my protein in.

Have you started your preop yet? I start tomorrow' date=' but quit soft drinks over a month ago and have just been drinking Water, water with Mio, a glass of sweet tea ever few days. I have had no caffine except what is in the occasional sweet tea. I have already started a couple of shakes a day and eating at supper time. Trying to make my transition as painless as possible. I cannot imagine doing this with a caffine withdrawal headache! There is so much info out here.....even more than my surgeon gave me. Not knowing what to ask, I have read so many posts, I now have questions for him! I've researched and researched for months now and I am ready to be sleeved!!! Preop tomorrow and surgery on the 29th![/quote']

I was moved from the 28th to the 29th. I am on day three. How is it going for you?

My preop started today! I need all the prayers and positive thoughts you can throw my way! Just the word diet sends my brain into cravings for foods I can't have!

Praying for you. You can do this. Just take it one day at a time. This is the beginning of an exciting adventure. We can do this!

Thanks kk23! I just realized how close June 29 is! I am so ready to do this! This weekend was very hard on the preop diet. Today feels like it's starting out better!

Adding you as a friend since we are "sleeve sisters." Join our fb group if you want.

I would love to. What is it? Glad to day has started out better.

I am on the 3rd day of my pre op diet

I have had a headache at 5 pm for 2 days now

has this happened to anyone?

Hi Sarah - I was so used to drinking coffee every single day (morning, afternoon, and evening) that when i learned that I had to cut caffeine out I switched to drinking decaf. I immediately got headaches the day I switched. This happened for about a week for me and then eventually stopped. I'm thinking that this might be the same for you? Hope you are well and exciting news that your surgery date is coming up very soon =) ... take care.

The peppermint tea is what helped me with the caffeine withdrawal and it was my saving grace in the hospital with gas and pain. I swear when they bring the food tray they brought me clear hot Water in a coffee mug and a plain decaff tea and the water smelled and tasted like coffee and it disgusted me. I had the nurses bring me a styrofoam glass with hot water and I did my own peppermint tea and truvia. Even cold it felt good. I usually sipped on that and water all day long. It's the first thing I drink when I wake up in the morning to take my medicine. It's the last thing I drink at night. If you don't like peppermint try something that honestly makes you feel good. I'm grateful I found this.

I would love to. What is it? Glad to day has started out better.
