Up until I got pregnant and was placed on bed rest with pre-eclampsia I was a fit 130lb. Then came the pregnancy induced hypertension and bedrest for 4 months and on came the pounds. After delivery, I continued to eat for two and therefore did not lose the weight accordingly. So for the next 18 yrs, I yo-yo dieted and what-not. Then at 35, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and any dieting attempts failed to lose pounds and instead they were creeping up as was my A1C levels. Last thing I wanted was Diabetes.

I have been an OR nurse for several years now and have done many bariatric surgeries. The surgeon I work with is great and I would ask numerous questions during the surgeries. Finally, I told him it was time that I was the patient to rectify some health issues. So we met and I told him I was confidant that it was the VSG I wanted. He knew that I was informed of my choices and respected my decision.

Well, that surgery was on May 1st and I am proud to say that I have no regrets, a great support team at home and work, and look forward to the continued weight loss in order to get to a newer healthier me.

I also look forward to reading all of ur success stories as we all move toward a newer, healthier us!

Congrats! It's neat that you've worked in the OR for bariatric cases! I just had my surgery on Monday, 5/14, and am doing well & am very happy with my choice too! Feel free to follow my blog if you'd like (it's in my signature).

Its nice to read a positive story! I think it's telling when a nurse who works on bariatric surgery cases chooses to have the surgery and chooses the sleeve. For some reason it makes me more confident in my decision. My surgery is June 4th and lately I have had so many doubts and then I read of the people who are regretting their choice... scares me. But, I realize that I can't go through regretting not being able to eat the way I use to because that's what got me into this situation in the first place. Eventually you figure out how to live with it - after all, what would I do if I had to have the surgery because I had stomach cancer? I think because we are making the choice we forget to remember that its for our health. Anyway - thank you for posting!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
