One Month Update Questions

Recommended Posts

I will be one month post-op on Saturday. Doctor said everything looked great when I went to see him two weeks post-op and I had no problems with nausea or throwing up. He said that I could start soft foods and even regular food as long as I chewed it up really well-- and that my body would tell me if I'm doing too much too soon.

I have lost 34 pounds so far, which is great.

I think I have been trying to eat too many normal foods and I'm just not ready yet. But I really am craving real food and I do take the time to really pulverize it before I swallow. The frustrating thing for me is that it isn't until 15 or 20 minutes after I eat that my body tells me that I over did it--- while you're eating, it seems to be going down great, but then later-- I am feeling like I need to throw up--- and sometimes do.

I know I just need to back off of the regular foods and do more liquids.... and add the real food gradually.

I never thought that I would miss eating so much-- I took out my mother-in-law and my family for Mother's Day to one of our favorite restaurants which was really difficult.... My old self would have devoured everything on the plate, but I was only able to enjoy a few bites and my 15 year old son took care of the rest :)

This is teaching me a lot about my food addiction. I look forward to the day when I can eat normally and enjoy small portions of the foods that I love.

I am interested in hearing your comments!

Thanks,

Randall

Hello! Congrats on the weight loss. I am 9 months post-op and still have the days you speak of. Sometimes my stomach is full and I can feel it but my brain will say, take one more bite. Lol Against my better judgment, I do try it because some of the time when I am full, I haven't ate enough to save an earth worm so I need that one more bit of Protein. I usually can't even chew it so your new stomach will let you know. What I do know when I go out to restaurants is that because I have a thoughtful boyfriend, we order one plate which you know is always enough for two people. If we don't feel it's enough, he will order more meat and we always have our own salad or vegetables. Sometimes though the waitress will bring a bit of a bigger portion when they realize we are sharing. I didn't have problems with nausea and vomiting in the beginning either. It came down the line and I have to say I have a couple of episodes a week. Sometimes its just a nauseated feeling and passes and other times, it's the real deal. Everyone is different! Just watch yourself and how you react to certain foods and drinks. Remember this can be a permanent resolution to what used to be temporary solution(dieting). I think we know diets don't work and this isn't a diet---It's a journey into a new life as though you have been reborn again. Our stomachs our about the size of toddlers. We need those small spoons and baby bottles. lol Small steps will you get you there. It's just takes willpower and perseverance. Remember you are responsible for your own happiness no matter how many people are on your side and give you support. I mean it helps but nobody can eat or exercise for you!!!!! This is all you now!!! Good Luck!

You will enjoy them. I enjoy my 3 baby back ribs everytime instead of a full rack. Feeling full doesn't happen that soon out. It is not the same feeling, but I have it now finally. I probably got it it at about month 7. Like the satisfying full feeling. I really loved Soup for the first six months. Everything else was so hard, and I hated eating. At 11 months out I am still not really eating everything because it just seems weird...like burgers or sandwiches or tacos. I still feel really weird about those items because they have more than one element...like bread, burger, lettuce, ketchup, tomatoe, pickles...Like how am i going to get a bite of all of that. So I typically just stick to one kind of meat and then a side. So baked chicken and potatoes. Not too many elements :) It is really weird. i want to have a taco, but the meat, shell, cheese, lettuce, tomatoe, salsa it all seems like to many things at once. I missed food too, but I don't miss the remorse after stuffing my face with pizza and tacos and wings. You will get the satisfaction back, but it will be a long while before you are there. i am going to try a taco this weekend. I can tolerate everything now...even Pasta which I couldn't a few months ago. I just try to make sure I eat protien so all the other things are really extras.

@June13sleever I eat my tacos! Hard crunchy shell or tostada shell with all the fixings. I had my sleeve at kaiser and they gave out menu plans and it's for tacos! Breakfast tacos but of course you can tweak recipes. It's recommended to use salsa over your meats in case they are "dry". I like chicken breast but the dark meat is moist and has more Protein so with chicken breast, I usually have a little bit of barbeque sauce or salsa. I also do burgers with all the fixings. I eat part of all of it and then just the meat and cheese. It also depends what kind of burger I make. Like, I might have a burger with egg and cheese on top and 1 small piece of bacon. It sounds like a lot but it's made to order in my kitchen. My size. My style. My way. Lol not lol like ha ha but the irony of a slider being a sufficient meal for sleevers and sometimes we can't even finish that and we still have to get down vegetables. But it also seems to me like you have days like me where I am starting to realize "Nothing tastes as great as good as thin feels." or "Taste makes waist." Lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
