Hello everyone,

This is my very first post. I am 5'4" and weigh almost 200 pounds. I am having the VSG surgery in the DR, self-pay in July. I know that less heavy people loose at a slower pace... but how much can I expect to loose. I want to set my goal at 135 or 140.

My husband doesnt think I need it, but only I know m struggles. I wish he was more supportive like the rest of my immediiate family. My weight has been an issue all of my life. I have PCOS and am also afraid this might slow my weight loss.

They say to expect to lose 50% - 80% of your excess weight in the first year. I don't think you will have a hard time getting to 140. I weighed 232 the day I had surgery and now I'm two months out and weigh 197. Good luck!

Hello!! I too am 201, and am 5'3. All of the paperwork was sent to medical mutual, and I was told I will hear from them in a couple of weeks.

My hubby is not so supportive either but I don't care as only I know how I feel. He is afraid I am going to die ! I told him I am going to die without this tool/surgery

I've seen a lot of posters mentioning that their husbands aren't very supportive about this decision. I think, for many men, it's difficult to deal with changes, particularly one that could make their spouse more attractive to others. Or it could be he simply worries about complications. I'm sure he'll come around, especially when he sees you become healthier, happier and more confident. Hang in there and good luck!

I think my husband is just as excited about my surgery as I am. We've been married 20 years and are very strong. I hope your husbands get on board and give you the support you deserve!

My husband too is very supportive. He has gone with me to all my doctor appointments and has been speaking with a friend he works with that had the gastric by-pass done a year ago. He wants to be fully informed. I'm glad because it's going to make it much easier one me in the long run. Espically his talks with the guy he works with that had the by-pass. He has told him how much everything will change for me - and because of that things will change for my husband too (as far as what he eats, how much, etc.). We are very excited! I am one week away today!!!!! By this time next week I will be waking up in my hospital room!

I'm 5'5" and had the surgery at 208. I got to a BMI of 25 (150 lbs) after about 4 months, then dropped some more weight.

How did surgery go? Are you feeling ok?

Surgery was... Okay, I guess! I slept! Haha! Afterward was painful - no lie. Still sore and doing my best to get down fluids. I do hope I never have to have another surgery again. I'm such a whiney baby :(

My starting weight was 218 and I'm down to about 179-ish. Almost 40 pounds in 8 weeks. I wouldn't consider that slow - but you will (as everyone does) go through stalls. I had one at week 3 then again week 7 (I'm just now coming out of it).

Eat right and move and the weight will come off. Best of luck to you and I bet your husband comes around. Tell him to come to support group meetings and post nutrition classes with you. Bring him into the fold and educate him. He'll come around.

Where did you have your surgery? Did you go out of the country? Self pay? I am still waiting to hear from the insurance company.

Sorry that you felt crappy....have you lost much weight since the surgery?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
