My Experience With Dr. Garcia And Associates

Recommended Posts

I want to start by saying my experience was a roller coaster of emotion for me. My husband and I drove to San Diego and parked our car at the border station parking (very nice place with 24 hr surveillance and cheap). I had all this time to starve and watch my husband eat as well as see all the billboards with food on them. I had to remind myself this was not going to keep me from eating just slow down the amount to a healthy level. Samual Sr. (he is very nice) picked us up and took us to the Marriott (which is amazing I might add). He checked us in and we had a great night sleep before the next day surgery. All the surgery girls met in the lobby that morning about 9:30 to catch a ride in the hotel van to the Mi Doctor Hospital. The night before surgery we were visited by our coordinators (2 of them) in our room to make sure we did not need anything. They were very attentive and nice to us. At the hospital we got all of our blood work done (I am a hard stick and Hannah got it on the first try). We were visited by 4 doctors including Dr. Garcia, Dr. Cabrerra which is the anesthesiologist, an internal medicine doctor (who had the sleeve 2 years ago) and another MD that works for Dr. Garcia. The history taken was very thorough and we waited for our blood work to process before we were to proceed with the surgery.

THEN I HAD THE SURGERY!!!!!

After surgery I felt no pain at the incision sight just sore throat and gas pain in my shoulder. If you keep walking the gas will subside and it gets much better. Were kept our IV for 2 1/2 days and had two leak tests after surgery to make sure we were good to drink some gatorade. We also received a care package before surgery with chap stick, ear plugs, and mouth swabs for dry mouth. The coordinators were there onsight for anything we needed. Their office is on the 2nd floor of the hospital. I love all these doctors I saw all four everyday of my stay. We were released on Wednesday to our hotel with another bag of goodies like antacid, pain meds, antibiotics, DVD of our leak test, and a folder with everything we need to know about our diet along with phone numbers and emails of the doctors and coordinators.

MY STAY WAS AMAZING! I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED AS WELL AS I WAS THERE!

Congratulations to everyone that goes there because you made the best choice possible!!

Any questions I will answer the best I can.

Yes he did. They put a bed in my room for him. He ate like a king at the hospital restaurant. They have great food and so does the hotel restaurant. Do not be nervous just excited it will be the best thing you do.

No problem. It was a great experience. The gas pain is not fun but it will go away when you walk. The more you walk the better you feel I promise you that. You are in good hands I promise.

I did leave out the EKG before surgery. Sorry it slipped my mind. It was a whirlwind day with lots of emotion.

Yes I had a drain tube. I think it helps with the swelling and it is painless to remove.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
