August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

Drum roll please.... I'm 6 days post op, weighed in for surgery on Friday at 216 lbs, and according to my brand new scale I purchased yesterday, I am 206 lbs! That's -10 lbs in 6 days. Holy smokes. Today is also my first day back at work and I'm feeling pretty good, I have a desk job which helps a lot, and I'm really trying to remind myself to sip every 2 or 3 minutes. I already made the mistake of trying to multitask and walk and drink down the hallways at the same time and I doubled over with chest pain because I took a huge gulp- I don't want to scare my coworkers thinking I'm having a heart attack. Lol. I'm definitly going to go home at lunch and lay down for an hour and just do nothing so that I pace myself and give my tummy some down time as well. Last night I helped coach a little for my club sport, then afterwards we all went to grab a bite to eat, I sat there with my Powerade as they all ate huge amounts of food, and I was almost perplexed- I had NO hunger what so over. It all smelled good, but I had ZERO temptation or desire to eat anything. They all kept saying they felt bad I wasn't eating, and I just chuckled and said don't worry about it because I DON'T WANT ANY! LOL!

So over all I'm doing great. Incesions are bit sore, but compared to a week ago I feel like a rockstar. Dr. Alvarez cleared me to swim 15 days post op and the count down is on! Once I get to full liquids on Monday and get Protein Shakes in my diet I know I'm going to be ready to start working out (in moderation). No regrets. At all. While I know this will be a long journey, I feel like I'm finally taking steps forward NOT backwards. I look forward to weighing myself rather than dreading it! Yay!

Hey, question for those that have been sleeved-are you guys having a hard time sleeping? I don't think I've slept through the night since my surgery! Frustrating.

Yes!!! I thought it was just me. I am tired during the day but then when I lay down at night I can't sleep for anything. I figured it was due to not getting enough activity during the day so I increased my walking on the treadmill.

Hey thanks for your reply. I've been researching this a lot, and there is some preliminary studies that show a correlation between reduced ghrelin hormone and sleep. It's really frustrating some nights! It's like having a newborn all over again.

It is definitely frustrating! Fortunately I had some leftover Ambien from about a year ago. That worked like a charm. I don't want to rely on it long term though.

Hi everyone,

Wishing you all good luck today and all those who have already gone, a speedy recovery. I am 8 days post op and feeling better today than I have since surgery. I even slept in...really really slept in till 10:00am. I must be needing to catch up on sleep. I even awoke sleeping on my tummy, yeah back to normal for me. Not the sleeping in part, I am usually a 5am kinda girl but the tummy sleeping. So excited for the new opportunities this surgery is going to give my family and I. Also, need to admit, post op reovery has been so easy with my children gone with their dad, he took an extra cycle off work to give me 10 days recovery time...he is a great dad! My house has been very quiet, and clean LOL. I have 5 more weeks at home and I think I will go a bit stir crazy, might have to start going for longer walks once school starts. (all the boys will be gone all day, BORING for mom at home)

Take care everyone and the after surgery journey is a good one...each day life gets better and better!

How is everyone doing? I'm still trying to get used to this site but in the meantime am finding it amazingly helpful! I was sleeved on August 15th and started my process in February. I am on day 7 and feeling good! I'm still a bit sore around that one "bad" incision but overall feeling better than pre-surgery. I am down 18.5 in a week ad couldn't be happier. Cannot wait to get to some soft foods though. Fellow August Sleevers, PLEASE share your experience throughout this month!

Thanks!

OT: I had a really bad experience on facebook while I was going through my divorce. My ex-husband is a psychotic stalker who enjoyed making my life hell. I deactivated the account because it was too hurtful to see our friends comment on the things he was saying about me. It's been years ago, and I said that I would never get on facebook again, but I really want to join this Facebook group. Does anyone know how to do that without deactivating the old account? Thanks

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
