Don't smoke within 48 hours of your surgery or you can have complications. And don't eat too heavy the day before because if there is still food in your stomach it could be bad news. I am not a smoker' date=' just going by what i have heard. I think Dean went to that hospital. If not then someone else did on this thread. :)[/quote']

Hey thanks for the advice

You're welcome. How are you doing now?

Guys, I got siiiiiick today. I tried a new Protein drink, the Aussie Bodies ProteinFX ready-to-drink one. It went straight through me like food poisoning. I am still feeling some stomach cramps hours later. Apparently something in that drink did not agree with me. :( I had to worm from home this afternoon and now I'm just really exhausted and cruddy feeling.

Ahm still smoking. I do have the intent to use Patches though post op to assist with the healing. I think the stress is getting to me.

Cath, I hope that your blood tests come back negative. The other thing that can cause back pain is the Phrenic Nerve which runs around the base of the Diaphragm and can cause referred pain into the back.

Mzbkt, I know that the pre op period can be really stressful, however, the serious complications that can result post op if you smoke up until the surgery could make your recovery very uncomfortable. If you can use the Patches for even just a week before surgery, you could reduce the risks of Lung related complications and also the risk of developing a clot.

Mistysj, it sounds like what you experienced today is called 'dumping', this usually happens when we drink/eat too much sugar (more commonly) or fat and it doesn't get absorbed. Unfortunately, the only treatment is to do what you are doing and rest until the symptoms pass. I am sorry that you have experienced this so early in your recovery.

Lissa, I love your NSV about being told to buy 'smaller clothes'...that is such a hoot. LOL. I'll bet you had a quiet giggle at that comment.

Bec, I hope that you are doing well after your surgery?

Regards

Michele

I don't think it was dumping. It was not a high calorie shake. I think it just didn't agree with me.

I got a txt from Bec:

Thanks so much. I'm doing well. I had a problem with my blood pressure but they fix it. But other than that i'm doing fine

Good to hear Bec is safely on the sleeved side.

Cath, I hope the doctors tests have come back ok...

mzbkt, it is definitely stressful pre-op,being so concerned about what life after surgery is like, am I making the right decision. But you are best off giving yourself the best opportunity for a healthy and quick recovery.

I had my first plastics consult today. It was interesting but I am not sure about the surgeon. Seems to be a paint by numbers kind of doctor which I am not sure I am happy with. Also need to see how much, if any is covered by my health fund.

He did say that he would expect that he would remove between 7-9kgs of skin, excess fat etc. Also that there is really not much more for my body to loose and it is ready for it to be gone. I would get a Tummy Tuck with some Lipo on my hips to even out, and arm lift with some upper body toning (no bra fat lumps).

This would be almost a 6 hour procedure, depending on my cover anywhere between ($15 - $27k..yikes). Tho I think I will look at another surgeon and see if I feel more comfortable, I felt this way with the first doctor I saw for wls and then found my surgeon who I felt comfortable in his hands...ya know...and this is my forever body.

Lol thanks Shele- I did have a laugh when they said that. It's funny though that people feel comfortable saying that when you're bigger and you are talking about weight loss etc. I wonder how many "thin" people they'd feel comfortable saying that to??

Cath I would atleast put a call into your surgeon and check what they thinks' date=' it could be just gas but really better safe than sorry. If it is gas the best thing is walking.

I dont remember having any specific back pain, it was more around my shoulders.

Welcome to all the newbies..it is great to see new people coming through, as you may have noticed we have peolpe here at all stages of the sleeve life.

Sydneysiders, I am going to throw out a date of the 19th June to have a catch up. How does that sound?[/quote']

I am good with 19th June evening get together for us Sydneysiders - like SydneySusan, evenings suit me too.

19th June looking good to me (depending on actual time and location). Despite being an oldie I have young un's to get to and from school in the far flung 'burbs. Middle of the day or evening suits me best. I'll watch out for more details and look forward to meeting you soon.

hey Susan - I'm an oldie too - although looking younger than I has for years! :-)

When I lose weight, people start saying that to me when I'm just a bit bigger than them. I think it's almost self defense. They don't want to be the fat one! I also think when you change so fast people's minds don't have time to adjust.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
