Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Just an update, I am 7 months post op and have lost 25kg. Started at 107kg and have another 14 to go. Stalled again for the past month so going to see a new dietician in Brisbane who specialises in weight loss surgery patients and in particular the differences in nutrition between Sleevers and lap band people. Stuck in 82kg and really want to get into the 70's. Also haven't seen my surgeon since one month post op as he moved, but seeing him later this month and had a series of blood tests this morning. It will be interesting to see what they show. It's weird that I still see fat when I look in the mirror even though I haven't been this light in about 15 years and my clothes are all a lot smaller. The mind is a strange thing. It's an interesting journey and one I don't for even a second regret taking.

You've done an amazing job Kel. It will be great having this tool to chip away at the last bit!

I agree Dean. Couldn't have got this far or to the finish line without the sleeve.

Hi everyone,

My name is Michele and Dean, I don't have a 'decent' photo to post, so when I do get one I promise to use it.

I'm having a bit of a tough time at the moment because my Surgeon cancelled my surgery, because he didn't like being told I wasn't happy with his 'customer service'. So, I am in 'limbo' at the moment, because I have had to go back to the start with a new Surgeon, and I have no idea when or if I will have surgery. Today I am feeling like it is all too hard and that it would be much easier if I didn't have surgery. I was so 'ready' for surgery on the 19/3 , with holidays, family functions and all of the 'everyday' preparations in place that I feel like my whole world has been flipped into 'chaos'.

I will keep you posted if there is any news.

Congratulations to everyone on your successes.

Best Wishes

Michele (yes, it is spelled with only " one_elle", that's where my nickname came from .lol)

That's just horrible Michele. Whereabouts are you? Everyone here would be able to give you suggestions on great surgeons you could turn too. Don't give up, I know it must be hard tho. I swapped surgeons for the same reason here in Brisbane but did it in the initial stages. Let us help you out with some suggestions :-)

I am sorry Michele that you have to go through this but it's so important to be comfortable with and trust your surgeon. Particularly if it all goes to hell and you end up needing them for months and months. I couldn't have done what I have without my surgeon and my absolute faith in her :)

I think your frustration is totally undertstandable but keep the faith! Keep pluggin away at it and don't give up!

Cheers, Liss

Hey Michele. So about all the drama with your surgeon. I'm sure set backs like that can be very frustrating.

I'm not sure where you are. I know a surgeon in Brisbane who can generally get you in quickly given all the work you've already done. I was in a similar situation and got it done in a few weeks after months of work with a previous guy.

With the name / photo thing it was just a comment on my personal preference because I like to know names and see what people look like when I've known them for a while. I know people have lots of reasons not to have either on here, and I'm cool with that :)

I hope you didn't think I was being dishonest with the whole name thing Dean :) Lila is a nickname that my nephew uses and as this is the first forum I'd ever joined (besides facebook) was a bit nervous adding my real name (given my job - you'd know that is like!!).

Anyway - exciting news on the job front. I have a start date for my promotion - April 2 - and drove to Moree today and found a lovely new home to rent for the next two years. Loving the sense of secuity!! It's close to work, friends and there is a good pub in walking distance. I'm a happy camper lol :)

Cheers, Liss

Kelli - you have done so well and I am sure this new dietician will have some great ideas to get you off the stall - just keeping chipping away at it - I know that it took me a long time to be able to see where I had lost the weight too - has given me a bit more of an insight into how people who suffer from anorexia still persevere themselves as fat when they look in the mirror- it is obviously a body image that we have imprinted on our brains that is hard to shake. The whole psychology behind this weight thing has always intrigued me.

Michele - please don't give up. You have done so much and made so many decisions and choices to get this far and I would just look at a new surgeon as another step in the journey. I think it is a good thing that you are not going with this surgeon that cancelled on you as you really need to feel comfortable and happy with who you choose. Obviously the choice to keep going with this is yours and I would never try and talk anyone into it... but speaking from my own personal experience it is sooooo worth it!

Lissa - Good luck with the move and new job - I really get the sense that it is onwards and upwards for you - well downwards in weight of course!! Do you know many people in Moree or is this a real tree change for you?

Not at all. I shouldn't have made that comment without explaining my self.

I prefer it when I can see someone I've got to know, and I like to be able to know and remember their real name because it seems more 'normal'. I'm not offended or like anyone less or anything else negative about any one who doesn't use their real name or photo - honest! Sorry if I offended anyone :)

Good luck with the new job!!

Do you know many people there? If you don't it'll be good in a strange way to live and work somewhere where everyone just knows you as 'normally' sized.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
