Foam In Your Throat And Stomach - 3 Weeks Post-Op

Is anyone else experiencing foam in their throat? I ate a little too much one night and it came up, but also a ton of foam came up and I think that is why I felt so full. Now, when I drink water, I can feel that "foam" starting up. I took a gas-x to see if it would help, but I wonder what is causing it in the first place. I mean... water should not foam in your throat or stomach, right? Would love to know if anyone else is experiencing this as well. I did a search and did not find any posts about this. Thanks much.

This doesn't sound too pleasant! Yikes, I am so fortunate that I didn't experience this. ;)

Thank you Lilee84. I appreciate that. Guess I need to sip my water slower and eat even slower than I am and a bit less. I appreciate the reply.

I get foamies for different reasons....it triggers when I'm "hungry", if I'm upset or nervous I get them. Surgeon says everybody is different, msome never get them

I had this with my AGB, but have not yet had it with sleeve. There's nothing like yakking up the saliva equivalent of shampoo lather, is there? :)

There are probably variations, but generally this is the result of your esophagus "pumping" to push food through. It sort of churns saliva up into foam. In the case of the AGB it's the esophageal contractions to try and get the food through the stoma. In the case of the sleeve, it seems like there are a lot more causes.

Maybe try this and see if it makes any difference. Don't take any single bite of food that's larger than a large pea. Ensure you chew it to the point that you almost don't need to swallow because it has just sort of worked its way down your throat ("chew to goo"). Put your fork/spoon down, and wait at least 3-5 minutes before you take another bite. Use a timer if it's hard to keep track. Then try another bite using the same procedure. If that helps, you're most likely having issues with chewing enough, swallowing too much at once, or eating too fast.

I see you said you took a Gas-X, my surgeon has placed me on Omeprazole for the next year to reduce stomach acid. Are you on a daily acid reducer?
