Not Loosing/ Or High Expectations

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on march 27, 2012

My preop weight was 217, my weight on the day of surgery/ after preop diet was 204. After surgery I was back up to 211 (gas, fluids, bloating) as of tomorrow I'll be 3 weeks post op and my current weight is 199. Am I not losing or could it me that expectations are unrealistic. I'm starting to wonder if it was worth it after all.... Any one else not losing or with the same experience ????

Everyone's experience is different, but the one thing you need to keep in mind is that the less you have to lose, the slower it comes off. If you're expecting a dramatic weight loss like you see on these boards, you may have an unrealistic expectation of just how quickly you should be losing.

Something else important to remember is that while your scale may not reflect a smaller number, things are happening to your body that you simply cannot understand. Soon enough you'll start to notice their effects, but I wouldn't worry about it right now.

That sounds reasonable and makes a whole lot of sense. I think I may have been overwhelmed by some of the post that i see here in the message boards

Yep. When you start at 340 pounds, it's kinda like a fat-a-lanche at first. By the time I get down to your STARTing weight....I expect it will be rather slow going. No worries. Just follow the rules, and enjoy the ride. ;)

Hang in there! I lost a bunch of weight at first, but I was in the hospital for almost a month. Suddenly the scale's stopped moving (grrr right whenever I'm almost below 200, dang it).... but I just have to be patient.

my first visit I was at 381, then lost 20 lb's pre op, and surgery day was at 361, at my 1 week follow up I had lost 23 lb's and was at 338, now tomorrow I'm at my 3 week mark, and have only lost an add'l 5-6 pounds, since then, I did go back to work, start working out 3-4 times a week, and have started some small portions of solids, fish, chicken, egg whites, but nowhere near not being able to lose, 2 meals a day are musclemilk, shakes, and cytomax Protein Drinks, did I start w/ solids too fast, is this just a temp lull? I have 100 lbs' to go and dont want to think that this is it, I know I'm prolly panicking as it is only the 3 week mark, anyone else experience a slow down in weight loss?

Don't give up hope. My pre-surgery weight was 209 and it came off rather quickly. It all depends on your metabolism. If you think your metabolic rate is slow, then do what you have to do to speed it up. Search the internet for solutions. Plus, the slower it comes off, the better off you skin will be. Your skin will have more time to adapt and will create less hanging skin. That is a big plus! Your doing just fine. Try not to worry or compare yourself to others losses. ;)

I think you are doing just fine. My dr told me that I should expect to lose 1 or 2 pounds per week. I said WHAT!!?? My initial weight loss was dramatic, but then I went on a 3 week stall where I gained 2 lbs. I'm back to losing again. I don't think you will see the dramatic weight loss others have seen because you don't have as much to lose. But keep in mind that if you follow the program, you will continue to lose weight for 12 - 18 months.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
