Am I The Only One That Wasnt On A Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

I Was sleeved on 4/03 & my doctor didn't require me to be on a diet before surgery. I have been reading everyone else's post & they had to go on a diet before surgery. Could this cause problems after surgery? Just wondering...

I only had the day before surgery as Clear Liquids. That was it. But I didn't have to lose 10% of my weight prior to surgery.

I wasn't on a specific diet prior to surgery, but I was required by my insurance company to lose 5% of my weight and do 6 months of weigh ins. I placed myself on my own diet, which worked. I ate food right up until the end, and my surgery and recovery has been fantastic. I'm sure you'll do fine :)

I only had to do low carb/high Protein for both my band and my revision.

There's no scientific evidence to prove that the "liquids" only diet does anything more than low carb for a pre-op diet.

Nor, did I have do the 6 month wait, or lose any specified amount of weight before either surgery.

I wasn't placed on a pre op diet. The day before surgery he told me to eat light. I didn't I had Wendy's a burger and fries and didn't eat anything else for the rest of the night.

If your BMI is under a certain number or you've lost a number of pounds just prior to surgery then your dr. might not require the pre-op diet since your liver will already be in good shape.

I also wasn't on a preop diet. I have been fine so far, at 8 days out, and had no problems in surgery.

Nope, I didn't have to do a pre op neither. . . I was soooo happy cause I don't think back then i could have stayed on it. . . I was a horrible dieter 3 years ago. . . am now too, but at least i have this wonderful little (expensive) tool which keeps me on the straight and narrow! hahahaha. . . good luck to you all

I was require to also do the six months of dieting but my doctor and staff explained to me that it is also important to do the pre op diet because of after the surgery. It took me 2 months to give up coca cola. Then I had to change my eating habits trying to eat and not drink at the same time. They told me that people who try this before surgery are more prepared after surgery. If you are a self pay the 6 months does not apply but there are bad habits to break.

No pre-op diet here either. I've had some complications but they weren't due to my eating habits (a blood clot and an infected incision). Every doctor is different.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
