It's Becoming Real...

Recommended Posts

I have my preop appointment today. I've had some sort of anxiety all day yesterday and all night. I know that I want this but my mind is racing and I'm SO nervous. I am a revision from Realize band to VSG ... and I was no where near as nervous the first time around. I was so cool, calm and collected. For some reason, I'm scared. My surgery is April 3...less than 2 weeks. Anyone else feel like this?

I think your feelings are prefectly normal. Especially, since you are having a revision surgery (I'm assuming you haven't had much luck with the band). You will do great!! Good luck and keep us posted!!

I feel a little nervous but more excited than anything. I just keep wondering if I am doing everything I am supposed to , if I have everything I am going to need. This seems like it is the longest couple of weeks ever lol.

I'm april 3 as well. In Tijuana at INT hospital with Dr ponce de leon.

There is going to be a lot of anxiety going on until my surgery date. Yesterday, I started my diet and I was supposed to eat 1000 calories. Well, at the end of the day, I only ate 680. It's just my nerves! I want to be so good on this preop diet to make everything easier for my surgeon, that I'm afraid to eat anything.

I just got my prep appt dates today, so it is really sinking in that the surgery is less than 2weeks away, so I am so nervous now. I keep reading through all kinds of things on the Internet, to try to prepare myself, for what's to come. I am very excited too, but I think the nerves can get the best of us, when we are facing something like this and from what I have read from others, it is very normal to be nervous.

Just got back from the final part of my preop appointments. Yesterday, I met with my surgeon and the nurse. Asked some questions and they answered them, lol I got my prescriptions for the meds I will need for after surgery ...Then I went to register at the hospital...that took forever but I met with a patient coordinator and she explained everything to me in detail. I also had to do an EKG, labs and a chest x-ray.

Today, I had to go to a class with the nurse and the dietician. They talked more about the surgery and what to expect. They also talked about the different food phases we will be going through as we are healing. Very informative...I also paid my out of pocket expenses (yikes!)

So, I'm all set now...surgery is April 3.

:D IT IS NOW REAL :o

Yes, it is very real!! I had my preadmission testing in the hospital yesterday. I had EKG, chest x-rays, and blood work. I met with anestheology and was told a lot of things to prepare for the day of my surgery. I got really nervous when she was telling me. I kept thinking, oh wow, this is really happening!! My nerves were all over the place. I was nervous, excited, scared. Like you said, it is not becoming very very real. We are one step closer to our day.

Did you have to do any other preop classes or mandatory appts? I went through 2 small group preop classes, 2 dietician appts, 1 mental health, and I needed to go to 2 postop classes. It was very informative and I learned so much through this.

I'm done with all of the preop requirements...I'm starting my preop diet and now I just wait until next week. I'M SO NERVOUS. I do have to go to one support group in May, that I'm really looking forward to. Did i mention that I'M NERVOUS? lol.

Sabrina,

I just sent you a message. I see you had Dr. Khran. I am getting sleeved on the 12th with him as well. I am really excited! I am not nervous yet, but I am sure I will be the day of surgery. How are you doing?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
