Feeling Great Until I Drink Protein,,nauseated

Recommended Posts

I was feeling great until I drunk a Protein Shake, now i am nauseated. I feel good when I get my Protein from other things, like pudding, scrambled eggs, and soy milk. Can't wait until regular food stage. Makes you not want to drink any protein. I'll make it, but nausea is not my thing.

I had tried a bunch of Protein Shakes and did the dry heaves (tmi) with everyone of them. So far the only thing I have been able to tolerate has been Isopure. I just have to make sure I don't smell it. The smell of the whey Protein gets me every time. The taste is not so bad. Another thing I do is add powdered fat free milk to my sugar free pudding to up the protein. Hope some of these ideas help.

Thank you for your response. I tried Isopure and it was okay in the beginning, but now the acid irritates my stomach. I like your idea about the powdered fat free milk.

Could be the shake but it could also be what you're mixing it with, too. I had the same issue in the beginning and it gradually worsened from nausea after a shake to nausea all day to intestinal distress and downright pain as I got further out from surgery. Turns out I developed lactose intolerance so not only were my shakes (which weren't lactose free) bothering me, but the milk I was using to make them was making me sick.

Now I use a lactose free shake and I drink them with soymilk, coffee or tea instead of milk. I can't have yogurt or cottage cheese, either, but I am able to consume a small amount of cream cheese and a moderate amount of hard cheeses. Lactaid doesn't work for me, unfortunately, and neither do the lactase pills.

So, I'd start by trying a different brand of shake first, or by simply cutting out the milk for a day and seeing what happens. It might be a dumb suggestion, but also be sure you're taking your morning Vitamins with food as that can cause an issue, too.

Hope you figure it out soon!

Its the fake sugar in the Protein Drinks. If its going to be low carb it will probably have aspartame or some other kind of synthetic sugar.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
