Bowel Movement, There I Said It

Recommended Posts

Ok I am embarrassed to asked this but I must cause I hate calling my doctor all this time. So prior to my sleeve 2/8 (post op week 3) yay! I had suffered from Constipation. I would take these herbal pill and I would go, problem solved. But now my doctor recommeded I take Metamucil (which I have been everyday) and guess what I am still constipated. I can feel it and I hate it. Does anyone else have this problem? If so any recommendations?

I've not had surgery yet, so my suggestion may be a bust. I am however taking Protein drinks and am not as regular as I have been since drinking them. My suggestion is a tea called Smooth Move, it is an herbal tea.

What about a different item, Benefiber? I would go so far as to say prune juice, but not certain that you can have that now.

I haven't had the sleeve yet, but Metamucil never helps me. I have chronic Constipation. I find liquid fish oil (odorless lemon flavor) does the trick. I take 6000 mg everyday. And I go 1 time/ day

Hello,

I know how you feel the first few months I stayed constipated, after the sleeve I became lactose intolerant so I started drinking 3 glasses a milk a day and that got thinks moving. Now I drink boost everyday since it's not lactose free I get my Protein and I stay regular. You can also try, Miralax or try eating Protein Bars that are high in Fiber.

Hope this helps

Take Care

I took my son to the doctor for this problem and he suggested Miralax. It causes the colon to absorb Water which softens the stool, I think. Anyway, it works.

I am in the same boat, but this is the 1st time in my life I have ever had this problem. I honestly don't know how people with this problem often are able to stay sane! It has been 5 days for me now and I even gained a pound (I suspect the poop is the culprit ;0) ).

I haven't found anything yet that works. I am going to call my doc tomorrow and see what he recommends. I'll post back if he has info that hasn't already been posted.

I'm glad you asked the forum. That's what it's for! I was lucky enough not to have a Constipation problem. I wish I had some good advice for you. Perhaps the others will have more good feedback for you! I wish you luck!

Milk of Magnesium is the VERY best! It's very effective without

cramping. Benefiber, metamucil and Fiber gummies never worked for me.

I haven't had the sleeve yet, but I'm a Constipation PRO! I even had surgery to correct the problems that constipation caused.

Here are my solutions: (ask your doc before trying any of them)

1. fleet brand laxatives are very gentle and may help out.

2. frosted mini wheats Cereal but LOTS of Water afterward or else you'll have major issues.

3. dolcolax is what most docs recommend but they take FOREVER to work. If you are on pain meds, you will almost always have constipation.

4. glycerine suppositories

5. enema

Don't be embarrassed about taking an enema. It's better you give yourself one in the privacy of your own home than the nurses have to administer one in the hospital  .

You should talk to your doc about which options are viable. Once you get things "going" continue eating Fiber full meals followed by lots of Water or else you could come up with the very same problem.

I started taking Fiber gummy's. I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night - they equal 20 grams of fiber. A friend of mine gets hers at costco. I got mine at CVS. They taste great and it works for me!

I take colace 250mg 2 capsules, and also use an organic fiber. Sometimes they still don't work.:)

Benefiber works pretty well for me. I have taken the Milk of Magnesia, but that sometimes works a little quickly so I like to be at home for a while after taking that.

Metamucil scares me because it thickens.

I try to eat stuff that has Protein and fiber, like Beans. But I still need something more.

I have been trying the fiber gummies for the past few days, since I bought a couple of huge bottles before surgery, but I don't think they work as well for me.

Benefiber is available at Sam's and costco, as is the Metamucil and also the fiber gummies.

LOL I have a chronic issue with this. I find that eating some Fiber One cerial every morning helps. I do 1/4 cup of it and stir in a few big spoonfulls of yogurt. (This is pre sleeve, and it fills me up so approach with caution!) Then, a couple of hours later... magic! I also second the Smooth Move tea. The other one is coffee. Just a small cup is enough to fix the issue for me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
