Coffee?

Recommended Posts

So I'm new to all this folks and my first doctors appointment is this friday.Very excited.. So many of my questions have been answered at the seminar & through this forum but just wanted to know the deal with coffee? ??? I heard there is no caffeine 2-3 weeks before surgery but don't know how long after... Is coffee something I wil eventually get to have again or is it a permanant no no?? I do enjoy my coffee, a lot of it, but I can do without it. Whatever it takes to stay healthy, I'm ready!!!!!!

I'm on my 5 day pre-op diet. I'm allowed Protein shakes, Clear liquids, and yes coffee! I'm just not allowed sugar or milk in it. They did advise to not over do it with caffeine, but I'm having one tall soy, sugar free latte a day, and my surgeon says it's fine.

But ask your doctor what hsi specific guidlines are, and follow what they say. :)

They want you to detox from coffee before surgery, because the last thing you need while trying to deal with post op issues is caffeine withdrawal. Make SURE you do that. Takes three or four days to get past the symptoms. Afterwards, my doc said I can have 1 cup of regular coffee a day maybe a couple weeks after surgery. They gave me Decaf in the hospital. but what's decaf?!?! Bleh. Useless!

The coffee thing was the first question I sent to the surgeons office! LOL

When I was discharged last Friday, I was given the impression that my doctor is against his patients returning to drinking coffee. I'll know more as I go along, but I'm in no hurry. I detoxed about 3 weeks before my operation and so far, my energy levels have been fantastic.

I detoxed off coffee before surgery, but got a skinny vanilla latte at Starbucks after my one week post op check and haven't looked back. I even bought an espresso machine and make my own low fat sugar free lattes now. It's a good source of Protein with the milk! I'm 9 weeks post op and down 40 pounds and drink a LOT of coffee!!!

I have had coffee on a few occasions now. I get a very dark roast and it is somewhat less acidic and lots of milk. I seem OK as long as I limit it to about 4 oz in sips and stretch it out a little.

It isn't a habit I will be able to do much, however - I do notice the diuretic effect.

I have had a cup of regular coffee every day since Day 5 after surgery...I can give up carbs, but coffee? Never!

So glad to hear that I can still drink coffee...

I tried half a cup of leaded the other day and a few cups of the unleaded garbage throughout the day and man, I was draggin'...... I guess I'll just need to get used to Decaf for a little while. No problem with the detox that I hear about and good to know I can enjoy it eventually. Thanks all.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
