Dr. Garcia And Team Are Awesome!

I was sleeved last Thursday Feb 16 in Tijuana Mexico by Dr fernando Garcia and his awesome team..There are not enough adjectives to describe my expirience Dr Garcia his assisstant Dr. Velazco and anethesiologist Dr. Cabrerra are the finest team of doctors I have ever been placed with. I was very reluctant on going to Mexico(as I have a quite extenstive medical history) and now I don't want to go to doctors here in the US. The nurses were very kind, compassionate and competent I never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for anything..They even give you an internist to follow you during your stay whom gives you a thouragh exam I cannot remember her name but she was very sweet. The hospital is so so clean the smell of pinesol was everywhere. Their equipment is older than here in the US but it all works and does the job needed... I cannot believe that I had NO pain my biggest issue was nausea which they aggressivly treated the first few hours post op are the worst and after I did not even feel as if I had surgery . I am posting because I want anyone who is having had a hard time deciding on Mexico or US . I would rather be there than here for any medical treatment..I cannot vouch for any doctors other than the one's involved in my care but Dr. Garcia and his entire team are a doctors that I would Highly recommend to anyone especially my family members..feel free to PM if any questions

  • I just got back home yesterday from my trip for surgery with Dr. Garcia. They are definitely top-notch. When I woke up the next day after surgery, I told them that it didn't feel like I'd had surgery

Hi BarbieB. I am going to see Dr. Garcia for sleeve on April 9, 2012 - day after Easter, from Jacksonville Florida. I see you also came from Florida. I'll be traveling along.....do you think thats OK since its such a long trip? I am a pretty strong & smart gal so not too worried. And tidbits you can fill me in on that may help me with trip and experience besides packing lightly...lol.

Also, you mentioned you had to call for meds...what meds? Did they not send you to hotel with enough and also why did you need money for them? I am hoping the costs cover everything.

Sorry for so many question but one more....did you stay in hospital 2 nights or 1 and did you get a private room.

Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions. I hope your recovery and weight loss is going well.

Your neighbor from Florida!

I'd love any tidbits you have as well as I'm having my surgery on 3/30

pack light, follow the pre op diet without cheats I think you do much better post op..I had no pain what so ever..check the weather before you go it is really cold at night and warms in the day but I hade 2 cold days which I was out and about and was glad I bundled up. go shopping it is so much fun...If you have anything to ask specifically ask..I emailed finallyme with the questions she asked..I dont mind answering anyones questions..I remember it was not too long ago that I was in your shoes the unknown is kinda scary as well as going to a foreign counrty especially one that has gotten alot of bad press...the media sensationalizes that crap it is a completely safe place and the people there are so nice way nicer than most here in the staes..good luck and ask whatever you want..

My preop diet has been pretty easy. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and then a salad with protein for dinner. I only need to do this for seven days and so far, it's been pretty easy. Was that what you're pre-op diet was?

Which hotel did you stay at? I'm scheduled to be at the Marriott. Might ask to be "relocated" to the hotel with the Casino in it (-;

Some of the post-op instructions I got were a little confusing. How long did you stay on Clear liquids before you moved to full liquids? In one place it says clear liquids for two weeks and then in another I think it says clear liquids for 1-2 days after surgery.

Thanks barbie.. i must've been up late on night lol.. I'm flip flopping who i want to go with now.. i was set on going with dr. kelly.. but i've been since thinking about going to dr. garcia or dr. ponce. I'm trying to make my mind up today... I wish they had a sticky on here for each doctor.. that would be so helpful to have information all in one spot. I'm having surgery on May 4th now i have to decide again who with.. :-)

Hi FinallyMe,

I will have sleeve surgery with Dr. Garcia on April 11. So, there's a slight possiblity I may see you. I pray all goes well with your procedure. Safe Travels and good luck as your start the pre-op diet!!! I start mine on Friday. Ugh...

I am having surgery with Garcia on the 10th I am staying at Mariott if anybody wants to have a surgery buddy let me know.

April 10th?

Okay i have been swayed over to Dr. Garcia.. I'm so tired of looking through posts and youtube's and making sure that this is the doctor for me, but i know i will be in good hands.. So May 4th with Dr. Garcia. It can't get here soon enough!!

I may see you. I have surgery the 6th and leave on the tenth. We see eachother in passing. I'm getting so excited! I know this will be the best decision I've made in my life. I've lost approx 5 lbs on preop so far! That's just getting me even more motivated.
