Are You Eating Healthy?

Recommended Posts

I think I'm like the average guy here. I ate anything with fat, calories, cholesterol, and oil or butter. Thats how I got sick and how I got fat. Well know one could tell me anything different before all that. LOL I am a guy's guy. Let's have a beer and a big fat T-bone steak.LOL

I developed diabeties that made my leg go numb, heart started to beat differently, on insulin and metformin with a A1C of 9.4, High blood pressure, cholesterol of 250, Yup a man's man. Cardiologist said that the diabeties would kill me soon, so the surgery risk was a moot point.

fast forward one year,

Diabeties gone, cholesterol below 150, Blood pressure 120/80 all with zero meds! I eat only healthy foods now, zero fried, no bacon, lean pork or beef, skinless chicken etc. I found out that there is a whole world of food thats healthy and tastes great! I've learned that anything in moderation is ok, but I'm careful as to what I put in my mouth. I have learned that I knew nothing about a healthy lifestyle until I almost lost my life.

Congrats on your success as you do inspire others here!!! Including myself. Thank you for sharing.

Hi,

Oh, you are my kind of guy! One that has learned something and has NO problem speaking about it. First of all CONGRATULATIONS to you for taking the life saving adventure that you took. It take a lot of courage to do what you did. The key words is "moderation" and you are so right about that.

Itsn't it amazing how good healthy food does taste, and how the lifestyle is a simple thing to do once you start doing it. The restriction helps a lot.

NO meds, that is amazing. You must feel like someone set you free and you have a whole new life. Live it to the fullest and never look back. pat youself on the back, because you do an excellent job. You are your OWN hero.

Thanks for the kind words, I like posting and hearing from others just like you.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Well said. My hubby can eat a ton of food. However, I noticed the other night at a restaurant, he ate some salad, Soup, and a little prime rib, ate his veggies and a bit of baked potato. That to me is a ton of food, but a lot less than he has eaten before. I'm so proud of him.

Thank you for sharing with us. ;)

Hi,

Yes, looks like he is learning from watching you eat. The thing that you and I have is that we only have about 15% to 20% of our old stomach. He has his entire stomach, so for him he did really well. It is amazing the amout of food that they serve when you go out to dinner. NO ONE needs that much food, but as a society we think we need to get what we paid for. Look what it has done for us--made us fat and unhealthy. Now we are learning that we really don't need that much food to eat. Congratulations to you and your husband. :tongue2:

Hugs,

Suzanne

Hi,

Awww gee thanks so much. I just want people to know and feel that this is a very do able thing to do, and you can keep the weight off. I know that it was something that I wasn't sure when I started this if I really was going to keep it off.

Thank you so much for sharing. I was sharing your story with him at dinner tonight and also taught him how to get a side of chicken for a really inexpensive cost and make the meal basically high Protein. He was amazed.

I get alot of information from reading your post.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
