What type of aftercare is helpful

Recommended Posts

Just wondering for U.S. and Mexico/other patients - what type of aftercare do you receive from your doctor and what is/has been helpful to you AND/or what type would you find helpful?

Alll aftercare appts. for 6 mo. are covered for me. All my fills for 6 mo. are covered as well as any problems I might encounter. So far all I've had is a wound check, but I get my first fill on Aug. 30 and can't wait. I had my surgery at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

I had 3 months of totally covered aftercare and fills. I have access to the nutritionist forever and after the 3 months my fills are only $15! I had surgery in Denver CO.

Wow - sounds good! What about emotional type care - do you have support groups, conference calls or anything like that you find helpful (or would find helpful)?

My doc has a support group that meets once a month, plus check-ins with the bariatric nurse and the nutritionist every month, or more if needed. All my fills and after care for the first year are also included in my cost.

I had my first post op visit at 6 weeks and have been back to 2 fills. $15 co-pay each time. I did not have any external stitches. I was put back together with skin glue and liquid bandage. Vey little scaring. I have over a dozen people at my work who have had WLS, so I have a built in support group. That's about it.

I was banded in the U.S. My first year is totally covered for fills. (I still have to pay a co-pay for visits.) They offer a weekly support group and gym with an onsite trainer just for their patients. I see my surgeon monthly and a nutritionist is available.

I feel like I'm in really good hands with them...they have even told me that even if it's 2AM I should call them if I have a problem and that they'd come in after hours for emergencies, if necessary.

Of all the ammenities they offer, I'd say the free gym and access to my surgeon are the two most helpful.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
