I have to get a thyroid ultrasound. Not related to the weight loss appointments. I want to know what happens? Am I put to lay down? Is it something quick? I ask because I have no sitter as yet, but tons of appoinments. I'm trying to get all appointments on the same day so I can have my uncle watch my son. Although I still have to call this local daycare for rates. I've taken my son with my to the doctor for regular stuff, but this is new stuff and I don't want him unattended if the process is long.

I asked my friend what it was and about the process, and with her endoscopy they put her under. She couldnt really explain everything to me clearly. I could call the office, but the woman who answered, her English was not that too good. What happens during an endoscopy? How long is it?

You will not be able to take your son to the endoscopy. They put you to sleep and require that you have another adult with you. They will not allow you to drive after the procedure. The procedure itself only takes about 30 min, but with the pre-op and recovery room time I would plan to be there between 2-3 hours.

The ultra sound is very simple. He could probable go for that. It only takes about 10 min. It's just like when you are pregnant, but on your neck. He could sit on the end of the bed while you have it done. The longest part about this will be waiting your turn to go back. Best of luck

You'll be groggy and maybe even a bit on the 'high' side. It will depend on exactly what kinds of drugs they use on you. Of course you will have an IV, but other than that I had absolutely no discomfort what so ever.

Can you tell me about the pelvic/abdominal ultrasound? She told me it should take an hour.

I didn't have one of those, but I know they are like when you are pregnant. No big deal. I had a CAT scan of my abdomen. When it can back irregular, I also had a colonoscopy. I had colitis and had a pre-cancerous polyp removed.

It's required as part of the tests (pelvic and ab ultrasound) Just trying to get an idea of the things I need to have someone watch my little one.

A pelvic/abd us is like when you have a baby, but the pelvic part, they insert a "wand" of sorts in your vagina to get a close look at everything. The EGD(endoscopy) is a quick procedure, but you are given conscious sedation. Meaning as prev. poster said, you have to have another adult with you. You cannot sign legal documents, make any legal decisions etc, due to the sedation. (we use propofol at the surgery center I work at). EGD timeline--once we get you into the pre-op area-1/2 hour to an hour--as we go over history, get a physical assessment and baseline vital signs and cardiac rhythm strip and your IV for sedation. once you go back 15 minutes- then back to us in PACU and we have you awake and out the door within a half hour

Much luck to you--the worst part of the EGD is anticipation.. You will not remember anything

PACU? They didn't tell me anything about having an adult with me. Ugh! I wonder if I can get it scheduled on a Saturday? Hmmm..

That's just what it's called.. totally outpatient. the adult is so they can drive you home and sign your discharge stuff.. (legal documents). I wouldn't think they'd do it on Saturdays but it is always a possibility. I would call the office tomorrow that is supposed to be doing it to find out. Our office mgr calls the patients in the week before to tell them all the "requirements" of egd day. Don't stress.. Maybe there is a friend that can help you out for a few hours?

Would I be that out of it I can't take public transport?

You could be pretty woozy depending on the anesthesia they use... Could you still bring someone along?

I will be having my consult on Tuesday. I will make the appointment for April were my aunt can come with.
