@lisalalani it does feel surreal. I will be 2 weeks post op and I am waiting to chew something as well. At my first week checkup I thought yogurt or thicker fluids would be introduced. I was wrong, just Clear Liquids and the intro of Protein. I am so praying for baby food, mushies, cream Soup, or something of substance.

This experience is surreal. I am very grateful for the surgery. I will follow the rules to the T. Good luck with your lost. If it gets to hard, take a nap or go for a walk.

Dooter, have you realized we're almost like sleeve twins? Except I'm a revision, and we have differents urgery dates, and... but stat-wise, we're really close.

My pre-op was (apparently) 348. I didn't look when they weighed me so I didn't know until today how much I had regained after my band removal. Ugh, like 50 lbs in 6 months. That shouldn't even be possible. Before I got fat I was happy around 180. 175 puts me just barely into the really high side of "normal" weight on the BMI charts (I'm about 5'10).

Wow!! 5'10"?!? That's awesome! I used to be 5'6", but now I measure 5'5". Someone on here said that they lost weight and got an inch back! I'm hoping to also. If I were 8'2" I'd be the perfect weight right now!! Realistically, I'd be really happy at 180, but the greedy side of me wants 140. hehe We'll see. ;)

I have my one week post op tomorrow. Does the doctor change your diet to anything other than full liquid then? I am on full liquids now. I am hoping to get to mushies soon...oh, to be able to chew...! ;) LOL! I am so glad that I got the surgery. It is such a HUGE change to my life. I have wanted it for so long (10 years) that now that I have had surgery, it seems surreal. Does anyone else feel that way?

It'll happen before you know it! When the food world opens back up, you feel like a kid in a candy store. You make all these big plans for what you want to try, then you realize...this is all going to go bad before I can eat it all!! haha! My whole first week was clear liquid, so the second week I got to add Protein Shakes and strained, cream Soups. Did that for 2 weeks, then blender food for 2 more. Every doc seems to be just a little different though. Hang in there!! :)

My word............... My sleeve loves hot (temparature) stuff. When I drink very warm broth, my sleeve is so well behaved. Any thing cooler than thatt, it is unhappy!!!!! I'm still on all clears but I admit I have cheated with a couple teaspoons of SF pudding and some string cheese. I am hoping for pounds lost and a move to the mushy stage at my 1 month post op next week!!!!!! I am researching what I can have during that stage because I willbe back at work and I don't want to do ANY thing wrong!

I just hit my 50-lbs lost mark on the scale this morning.

Yes, I did a happy shimmy dance in my underoos.

Glad to see so many are doing so well. It feels good to be a nice, round, 25% of the way toward goal in just over three months!!!

Woot! Woot! :)

I just finished my psych eval, and I know she said I was fine and she would fax it over to the doctor's today. I think I'll get a call to come in and pay this week (I'm self-pay) and then I should get a surgery date and schedule the rest of my pre op stuff.

I've been so busy, I've hardly been checking sleevetalk. I'm maintaining when I need to be losing. My workload has been so heavy for several months, I've only been working out once a week --luckily having a trainer gets me in the gym minimally. Things should ease up in three weeks and then I'll be back at the gym 5 days a week. At least I'm not gaining. Before surgery, with a year like I've had (I'm in education, so I date a "year" from August), I would have easily gained 40 pounds -- if not more. Looks like lots of folks are doing great! Way to go!

Hi - I have been reading on this board for several months, but only found this group today. I have read the entire thread. Thank you to all who have posted to this group.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who had so far to go. I lost 30 lbs on my pre-surgery diet over a period of 4 months. I had surgery 12/28 and weighed in at 337. I actually celebrated when my weight dropped below 300 lbs.

By my 3 month followup last month I was at 287. I weighed at the gym last week, but it showed I was at 292 - I was upset, because I have been doing well and exercizing at least 2 times per week for an hour. However, I checked it with no weight on it and it didn't balance until the scale was at 12 lbs. I haven't weighed since then, but I plan to tonight at the gym (I'll check the scale empty before I weigh though). :)

I know it seems stupid but I was so excited last week when I bought a pair of jeans at Walmart AND THEY FIT!!! I didn't have to go to the speciality store to get jeans.

I can wear smaller sizes, but I don't feel smaller...I guess my brain isn't keeping up. I was in a size 30 jeans (tight) before surgery and am wearing a 24 now. I actually had to buy jeans because I couldn't keep my oldest small pair pulled up. It doesn't seem quite real though.

Thanks for being here.

My one month post-op was yesterday. Maybe today will be the day, but so far I've not yet managed more than 50gm Protein in a day. I'm trying, but anything thicker than Water fills me up like no one's business. Capacity-wise - I'm still around 2 tbls. So when I eat I try to eat the highest protein things permitted at this stage of my post-op diet, which would be either well cooked fish (I make a fish chowder and eat out the boiled fish pieces, or tuna) or deli chicken, and light cheese. I'm digging the light babybels, but I usually can't eat anything else if I have one. Sometimes I can wrap a piece of thinnest slice deli meat around it. I think I can do sashimi next week, which will probably be my saving grace.

My RTD protein took me 2.75 hours to finish this morning. Sigh. I need to figure out a way to keep them cold for long periods of time, out of the fridge. Still no sickness or nausea. Occasional, mild heartburn so I'm doing the PPI 2x daily now. Some very minor GERD (nothing compared to what I had with my slipped band) but only if I eat late at night. I've found that if I stop eating about 3 hrs before I go to bed (which I should do anyway) there's no trouble. Still not doing any significant exercise. From about 2 weeks, until about 5 days ago I had a MAJOR energy slump. I couldn't even get through a shower without feeling like I needed to sit down. It came on overnight, then disappeared overnight. Thank goodness our bodies can balance themselves out fairly quickly. Going to go shopping this weekend for some exercise equip for home, and trying to convince DH that having one of those little indoor exercise pools installed is about the best idea ever! ;)

About 2 weeks out I had an unprecedented breakout. I've had clear skin for years & years, so this was quite shocking, but understandable considering how quickly my body was releasing hormones into my system. It's mostly over now, but TOM came 7 days early.

I really don't know how much weight I've lost (I will not own a scale until I'm into something resembling maintenance). I was like 40 something pounds down from my suirgery weight when I went in for my 2 week post-op (yeah, 40ish lbs in 2 weeks, now you know why my skin was breaking out and my skin is so dry I have ashy toes). Tomorrow is my psych post-op so if it's available I'll hop on their scale then. I gained a bunch of weight just before my surgery (lapband was removed about 6 mos prior and I steadily gained after), so judging just by how my clothes are fitting, and how I knew they fit then, I'm guessing I'm right around 55 lbs lost -- maybe barely into the 200s now, with a surgery date weight of about 350.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
