Geesh - I Knew It Would Be Different, But Can't Eat Much At All

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am four weeks out, and was just allowed to try an egg. I've been doing great with my "liquids" (includes purees), no problems at all. I'm enjoying my coffee, my spicy sauces in my Soups, no sugar added ice creams, etc. No problemo. No intolerances.

But, try anything slightly thick and I am stuffed to the gills. Wow. WOW. My egg experience earlier today consisted of maybe a tablespoon total. I felt like I had eaten a boulder. No pain, just stuffed. I've kept the remainder of the egg to show my husband when he gets home, so that he can see how little I can eat. He will be very surprised.

I had less than 1/4 of a soft avocado with a tablespoon of salsa on top, and was full and had to throw it away.

I can eat about 1/3 cup of my homemade Soups like pea and black bean, with no problem. I get full, but not that stuffed feeling.

I cannot imagine ever again ordering a plate of food for myself, although at some point I am sure I will. And then throw most of it away, more than likely.

Part of me says "Bummer" and the other part of me says, "Hallelujah!"

Oh an egg sounds divine! I just started full liquids week two (minus milk) and I've been thinking about deviled eggs, thinking that might be a decent first egg dish.

I've been a little surprised at how easily any fluids move through. In the hospital the nurses were irritated at how little I was drinking, but all I'd heard was sip, sip, sip and not to take in more than a third of a cup at a time. They were bringing me two cups at least at a time.

Good luck with the solids!

I was the same way at 4 weeks out, it gets much better!!!! You're still swollen. In time you will be able to eat an entire egg surely.

Well, I'm 9 months out, and I can't eat a whole egg yet, either. :-) I've sort of gotten used to the tiny amounts I have to eat. It's worth it, believe me--I'd do it all again in a New York minute. I will say that sometimes I eat food that tastes yummy, and I wish I could taste it for longer, but once my hunger is gone, I just don't want it. My fridge and microwave and toaster oven are my best buds now for leftover yumminess.

I could barely eat an egg early on, and at 5 months out I have my regular Breakfast of 1/4 cup egg beaters, a few mushroom slices, a piece (1 oz) of canadian bacon, a little diced Tomato and 1/2 oz shredded 2% cheese. It's the perfect amount - fills me up but I'm not stuffed, and I'm satisfied for hours! You'll get to the point where you feel like you're eating more "normal" again.

Being raised by a depression era grandparent has caused me to wince at that statement. Box it up and take it home. Eat for 4 days on it. Shead it up and make it into a pizza using a low carb tortilla, mix it in your morning eggs ...

I usually do a Protein Shake for breakfast- but tomorrow morning I may just have to try this... Minus the canadian bacon but only because I don't have any.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
