Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Recommended Posts

Well well, to my surprise I have 'shrunk'. All these years I thought I was 5'2 and I am with tennis shoes on! LOL But at my surgeons office they measure without shoes and I am 5'1. (helps with BMI they say) :)

So, I am scheduled for THIS Thursday in Mansfield Texas with Dr Dyslin. I start Clear liquids tomorrow......

woooohooo can't wait! :)

Anyone close by, we can be support buddies.

Let me know, okay?

Have a good night everyone,

LaQuita

My first visit to the doc the nurse measured me and said...oh I'm not sure it's quite 5'. I gave her a very stern look and asked her to check again......

I am 4' 10" so I think I am the shortest one on this forum...LOL I am one year and two months out from my surgery...I started at 179.5 lost 5 pounds prior to my surgery and now I am at 130. I am so glad I did this surgery I wish I had known about it and had it done years ago.

I'm 4'10, scheduled for sleeve next week. I had a lap band that was unsuccessful due to placement. I had it removed in June and had to wait for my stomach and ulcer to heal. I am ready to go now! I think I may be the biggest on here with my peak being 273, I'm currently at 253, so I have a lot of work ahead of me! I'm so ready! Any suggestions going into surgery? Oh yeah...I am traveling from Texas to my hometown in Florida for the surgery. I have a wedding to attend 4 days post op and after my post op appointment (10 days post op) I will be flying back alone with my strong willed 4 yr old...am I crazy or what?!?

Hang in there, I hit a stall about 3 weeks in as well. I started eating a little more. Don't think I was getting enough to eat.

Hi everyone!

I posted quite a while ago, but just wanted to give an update. I'm 5'1.5'' and started at 264lbs. My surgery was on 6/12 and I'm am now down 59lbs!! Can't wait to get under 200 and into "Onederland!" My weight loss has really slowed lately and I've had several weeks of plateaus (which are NO fun!). I'm ramping up my exercise and working with a trainer, so I think that will help. I've also slacked off a bit on counting my daily Protein intake so I need to get back on that as well. However, I do find if the scale is not moving for me my inches are!

I am SO happy to have my sleeve. Having this surgery was THE best decision that I've made. :)

Best wishes to all of my "short sisters!"

:)

5' 2.75" still counts as 5'2", right? I'm scheduled for 11-05-12. I've gained 6 lbs since I decided to do surgery. Hope to lose that and then some on the pre op diet.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
