Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date Set.....low Bmi

First I just want to tell everyone how helpful this site, forum, blog is to those of us that are just finding it. I am a self pay, and having surgery with Dr. Alvarez on March 13th....I'm so excited! I do have a low BMI and knew insurance would never pay for me to have, what I'm considering to be (or at least hoping) a life changing choice. I have about 55 - 60 lbs to lose, but want to do this before I have 100 to lose. I have read so many times on here that the only wish would be to have had the surgery sooner. I have fought the yo-yo diets for years and I'm just ready to not have that worry on my mind 24/7. As i am preparing mentally for my surgery I often wonder what life will feel like on the other side, or "loser bench" as its called. I would love to hear input from anyone with a low bmi and what your surgery experience has been. Have you lost what you were hoping to lose. Again, I want to tell you all thank you so much. My husband is the ONLY person that knows about the planned surgery. The only reason I'm not telling anyone is because I have lost the weight so many times only to put it plus an extra 5 so many times. I don't want to feel like a failure once again. This site is my support and salvation right now....THANK YOU!!!!

I can't answer but I'm to be sleeved in just a few days. I started the 3 day liquid pre op diet yesterday and did a lot better than I thought I would. I'm trying to drink as much Water as I possibly can so that I will go into surgery very well hydrated - that helps you recover better.

If you'd like to text or stay in touch and need some support' date=' please feel free to PM me and we can text! I can tell you that when I was choosing a doctor, I face timed with Dr. Alvarez and I love him!! You are in great hands!!![/quote']

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious how you are all doing now. I'm a lower BMI (35) and getting sleeved next week!

3 weeks till I'm sleeved

3 weeks till I'm sleeved

Lets start this thread up again! What is your BMI? And where are you having your procedure? I'm having mine in Vegas, but I live in Southern California.

I am 4 1/2 weeks out. Started soft foods this week. I am having issues figuring out what the right quantity is for soft food. I think it is around a 1/2 cup of food, but it seems to vary a bit by the type of food. My biggest issue is that I travel for work and stay in a hotel M-F. Thus, I don't have easy access to a measuring cup and I haven't figured out how to estimate quanities. The other problem is that I can't figure out the quantity or type of food to eat at night that lets me sleep through the night. Most nights I wake up at 2:30 / 3 am needing food or I can't get back to sleep.

I weigh in on the weekends but seem to be losing a steady 3-4 lbs a week.

I travel with my job. While I just started my preop diet-I realized early I WILL have the same problem you are having with measuring. I found 2 ounce plastic disposable "Gelatin shot-cups" at a "Party Stop." I plan to pack several them with me.

Love the low BMI posts. Im 5`6 And 190 pounds bmi 32. I use to be much smaller. After Kids and life I find it hard to keep the weight off. I know this will get me where I want to be And then I will be able to maintain And avoid my favorite chips and salsa addiction. I am scheduled for 3/8 woth Dr. Garcia but I may.change that due to my husbands Work schedual And go on the 15th instead. Since I live in San Diego it wont make much difference as far as travel goes. So excited to get off this roller coaster of weight every year!

I was sleeved by Dr. Garcia on 12/19/2012 and am doing great! I love my sleeve and have lost a tad under 30 lbs in two months. I am happy, happy, happy.

Dr. G and his team are amazing. You are in good hands.

I am 38 (old lady) 5'6 225lbs surgery with Dr Garcia in Tijuana Mexico

I'm 40 and soon to be fit and even more fabulous!!! lol I, too, am 5'6'' 225lbs and same dr. when is your date? Mine is 3/13/13.

I am thrilled to have found this thread! I am being sleeved by Dr oritz in 4/15 and can not wait. I am 5'2" and 175# so unable to have my insurance pay for it in the states. I am so tired of the to to dieting that I have done for the past 25 years. I have no health concerns at this time but as I look at my family members I know they are just around the corner if I don't do something now. I love the results everyone is having!
