Are you still sore? I am.....still just the one area, but that's more than enough. My NUT said limit myself to one cup of Decaf tea a day, but today that's all I've really been able to drink.

Feeling quite emotional today too.....hoping that passes soon :)

Yes, I had some pudding yesterday and today.....was the best thing ever! You're already going back to work? I feel for you....I'm scheduled off for 2 weeks, and just hoping I feel like going back then....I sure couldn't imagine going back tomorrow. Good luck!

I'm a teacher, so tomorrow is inservice. I just have to sit all day. I'm good at doing that right now because it hurts to move. Three different schools will be there and only a few know that I had surgery. They will obviously know when I walk in hunched over and holding my tummy because of being so sore. So, I'm pretty nervous for tomorrow!!!!

Hey guys! I see a few mentions of people getting sleeved at WeightWise with Dr. Walton or Dr. Broussard. Can any of you walk me through your day of op and post op? I live in Illinois and will be traveling out early next year. Will be self pay. I have my first virtual appointment with Dr. Broussard on Thursday. I've got a ton of questions to ask so far even after reading on here for about a month! I know every place is different so I would love to hear about specific experiences and stories WITH WeightWise! (Clearly I'm super impressed with what I've read of wouldn't be traveling the 12 hours to see them ;) lol)

Thanks in advance!!

Dr Walton did my surgery on 7/30. Down 18 pounds and feel great! Have had no problems at all! Post op just consisted of a clear liquid diet the day before, and no liquids after midnight that night. Also have to buy an anticeptic wash called Hibiclens and wash your stomach with it the night before and morning of surgery. When you get there they will make you take a pregnancy test (urine sample) and blood work, then you sit in the waiting room a bit. After they call you to the back you are weighed, and an IV is inserted pumping fluids and some medicine that makes you a little drowsy. They also give you an anti-coagulant shot in your belly to prevent blood clots. Then they wheel you off. At this point I just remember being in the surgery room for about 2 seconds and then I was out cold (this is when they give the general anethesia and intubate you (run a tube down your throat). I woke up in recovery and was VERY out of it!! They immediately put compression socks on your legs and you have an oxygen mask for the first half hour or so. After you start to be more alert they bring in fluids (broth, tea, Jello, propel) for you to start drinking, you need to use the bathroom for them (urinate), and a breathing apparatus you need to blow into every hour to prevent pneumonia. Then when you are ready (I was groggy for about 4 hours after surgery and slept off and on), they have you start walking. Every hour! Seems like by the time you finally get your compression socks on, your IV untwisted, and lowly ease yourself back in to the bed, it's time to walk again, lol. The nurses were absolutely wonderful (not to mention a very cute male nurse who worked the night shift, lol). Best hospital experience ever! I don't think you can ever really be prepared for this surgery til you go through it. For the first 3 or 4 days I mourned food, wondered if I did the right thing, etc. This is all normal. Just get past the head hunger and liquid stage and you will be fine! Now, 2 weeks out, my head hunger is gone, I can "drink" Water for easily than those horrible sip sip sips ALL DAY LONG, and I have moved past the liquid stage and finally get to chew!! No regrets! Hope this helped a little. Please message me if you ever have questions or need anything! Good luck!

Thank you thank you thank you! I've read SO many different experience stories on here and blogs but it is wonderful to hear the basics from the place I'll be getting the surgery at! I know I'll get all the info later but I'm info hungry now ;)

At least that's an appetite that's okay to feed ha!

So how long after were you on Clear Liquids, then full liquids, puréed, mushy, solids?

You know what I'm super thrilled about? That they must check the staple line for leaks while you're under still becauseeeeeeee you said they have you drink Water and fluids right after. Wahoo!!! That was honestly what I was most nervous about! Not being able to drink for 24 hours after! I had my wisdom teeth out in may and that is what I remember the most. The dryyyyyyyyyyyyyy mouth! Yuck! Did they have you do an awake leak test at any point? Is it a true hospital that you stay in? I read somewhere that its like 30 beds? Was your room private?

You are only on Clear Liquids the 24 hours before surgery, and while you are in the hospital (1day). They send you home with a booklet of instructions, what you can and can't eat during your phases. After leaving there I could have Jello, pudding, creamed Soups, yogurt, broth, popcicles and Protein shakes (mix a tablespoon full of sugar free pudding, whatever flavor you like, with a scoop of Protein and some soy or skim milk and it is sooo good. I love it with butterscotch or pistachio). Cream of potato (blended up) and egg drop Soup (strained as much egg out As I could) saved my life!!They give you instructions to eat this phase for 2 weeks (by no means am I saying to do what I did, just see how you tolerate things, but I only did it for 12). Then you are on to soft foods for two weeks. I can now add cheese (string, cottage, cubes, etc), eggs, refried Beans, avocado, and tuna/chicken salad, deli meat, fish, dark meat poultry, while Beans. No white meat chicken, pork or bee yet (too hard to digest). At a month out you can start introducing new foods and see how you tolerate them, no restrictions.

They do not check for leaks when you wake up. That is done in surgery. It is an actual hospital, a small one though. Your suites are private and were very nice and new. It is a well kept, nice facility. Everyone was wonderful. Curios, since you are out if state, did you get a patient advocate? Most of the people in there (nurses too), have had weight loss surgery. Just ask! It was comforting, and so exciting to see how thin they are!

How was your 1st day at work? I'm havibg my surgery on a Tuesday and going back to work the following Monday. I sit at a desk all day so Dr. Kirk didn't think it would be a problem.

I had surgery with Dr. B at WeightWise and had to go back to a desk job on Friday after surgery on Tuesday. While I don't recommend it if you can take the time off, I was fine doing that. By Monday you should really have no problems with the weekend to recuperate.

Thanks so much cumbie! I'm loving this info!!

It's so great to know what to expect as far as the surgeons orders. Each surgeon is so different I've been reading!

I do have a patient advocate-- Marsha/- but I haven't spoken to her yet. I've only really been in touch with Trevor so far... He's been very helpful

Did you have to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery date?

Oh I just love Dr. Kirk!! Who's doing your surgery? I had Varnell and love him! Work was okay yesterday. I had to go to the nurses office and lay down around noon. I'm still very sore but the weight is dropping off! Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
