What Are You Going To Eat For Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about my family's Thanksgiving meal all day. I can't decide what I am going to do, a bite of several things, or 3 oz of my favorite thing.

I am leaning towards just eating 3 oz of my fave - Aunt Bonnie's macaroni n cheese casserole. It has a lot of Protein - along with many calories n carbs but what the heck, it's still only like 400 calories- instead of the 5000 I would usually eat this day!!!

Maybe I will even have room for one or two bites of pecan pie later in the day.

What are you going to eat? Are you going to stick to your protein 1st rule? Are you going to splurge?

I will probably do the chew n spit trick in order to get to savor the taste of a few favorite things like the rotel cheese dip they always have, and maybe I will do that with the pie too in order to limit calories.

I am grateful (and yes also a little sad) that I will not be able to eat my normal amount at my first ever sleeved holiday meal. How do you feel?

HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO YOU ALL!!

I am eating Protein first--turkey with gravy (because I know the turkey will be dry, my BIL grills it, ugh). I have lost my taste for most sweets so I might have a bite of pumpkin pie filling but no crust. I am hoping there will be green Beans or broccoli and I might have one bite of mashed potato or yams.

I am looking forward to my first Thanksgiving where I feel satisfied but not stuffed and comatose.

So here is my day so far:

B - I made Shelley's Protein pumpkin pancake for Breakfast (eggface recipe)

L (the big meal) - I made a mock panini turkey cordon bleu (my own recipe) and had 3 oz

Coated turkey cutlets with a parmasean, sage, salt, pepper mixture

Heated pan with a couple of teaspoons of butter and maybe a tablespoon of chicken stock (to keep it moist)

I browned both sides of the cutlet and heated up a slice of spiral ham

Then I stacked a cutlet, a slide of smoked swiss, a slice of ham (sized same as cutlet) and then another cutlet.

I sprinkled some asiago on top and turned it over to brown the asiago and then repeated for the other side

My wife says it was the best turkey she had ever had.

I also had spoonfuls of broccoli cheese casserole, sweet potato casserole, and stuffing. About 200 calories total.

Not sure what I'll have the rest of the day. I am very satisfied though and don't feel at all deprived.

Enjoy

Yum Terry H!

I am on full liquids so before guests get here tonight I am meeting my Protein quota, so I will have a bowl of homemade delicious broth my mom made for me. I might attempt to make a spoonful of corn casserole very soupy and enjoy that too. We shall see.

My plate was very sparse and my family marveled at it!! LOL - I actually decided to taste everything rather than just eat mac n cheese :)

I went off my low carb, Protein first rule and did not count calories- just for the day.

When I arrived I had 3 small frito scoops with rotel cheese dip. Like broken in half sized scoops.

About an hour later we ate dinner and on my plate there was one teaspoon of each: stuffing, turkey, glazed carrots, corn casserole and there was about 4 teaspoons of mac n cheese casserole (my fave). I did not get a roll or mashed taters or gravy or candied yams. I did not eat all the corn casserole or stuffing. I went back and got a second spoonful of mac n cheese and could only eat one bite of it.

about 30 minutes later I had one single bite of the 3 kinds of pie- apple, pumpkin, pecan - right out of the pie tin (did not make a plate for fear of eating too much) - oh and I had about 3 more bites of pecan pie through out the rest of the afternoon (nibbling) over the course of 2 more hours.....as I drank my Water.... :)

I made a to go plate of my faves that will last me a week, and I didnt get any pie to go.

I was not at all upset that I did not get to eat more, I was VERY pleased that I was restricted to eating a small amount, and I was very full and very satisfied. Thank goodness for my sleeve!!!

I had a teeny piece of my brothers Deep Fried Turkey about one teaspoon sized- one same sized portion of my Father's smoked turkey- a very teensy bite of ham, 1 teaspoonful of green been casserole and one tiny bite of this wonderful gluten free homemade apple loaf.

Then I splurged and had 2 tiny sips of some sparkling grape juice which went down ok- to my surprise- but I left it sit in the ice for a long time before I tasted it. And I lost another 2 lbs since day before yesterday which broke my 1 week stall- when I went out of town to visit my friend at the spinal cord rehab facility and had a really hard time finding low carb/high Protein foods. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I had a little bite of everything except mashed potatoes & corn (I don't like mashed potatoes & corn doesn't digest well!)... I was surprised at how fast I got full! So, I ate the turkey first, carrots, stuffing, sweet potatoes & a tiny bit of gravy just to taste! It was a GREAT Thanksgiving! Hoping everyone had a great day too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
