Not just cold...downright FREEZING!!

Recommended Posts

I know it is not uncommon for sleevers to be cold alot. But does anyone know why? There is the obvious answer that I give to every one...we have lost our polar layer. But I feel this deep down bone chilled cold. It's like it comes from the inside. I wear long johns EVERY DAY. I live in Seattle and so it doesn't really get that cold here. Not like Nebraska where I came from. My hands and my nose (OMG, my nose is always freezing cold) are cold almost all the time. I get into bed, curl up in a ball (how awesome to be able to do that now!) and shiver while I hug a heating pad.

Any information would be so totally appreciated.

Living the dream!!!,

Laura

Are you maybe Anemic? Look at your gums in the mirror and if they are pale pink, maybe you should get your doctor to test your Iron levels.

Other than that, i don't have a clue. I know that people look at me funny here in South Mississippi because I have my heater on at work and am always in a sweater. My nose, fingers, and toes don't get cold but I understand what you mean when you talk about that deep down cold.

Just had the blood work done and my Iron levels were normal. It would be nice if it was just a deficiency that I could fix.

As Shae suggested be sure to check the obvious like Iron levels. After that it's a guessing game. I was your typical fat sweaty guy, well, scratch that - fat HYPER sweaty guy. I was ALWAYS hot, hardly EVER wore a jacket and had a fan blowing on me year round. Immediately, and I mean as soon as I came to from anesthetic after the VSG, I was cold and have been ever since.

I know that one "cure" to hyper hydrosis (excessive sweat) is to cut the vegus nerve near the heart. This same nerve branches down and terminates in the stomach and a small piece of it IS cut during the VSG, but according to sources I've read it is far too low and not long enough to have made a difference in the sweating, let alone be responsible for the bone chilling cold I feel now-a-days.

So while my "evidence" is circumstantial at best I am confident that there IS a link to the VSG and excessive sweating and sensitivity to cold and perceived cold feeling.

So just bundle up, put on the long johns and get ready cause as you lose weight it gets worse. :)

I am in big trouble! I weigh over 300 # and freeze now. I have Raynaud's disease. This is a disorder that causes the hands, feet, nose, ears and in some cases breasts to turn blue and get very cold (google it). In most cases it is not dangerous, but it can be painful. I can't pick up ice or snow with my hands without terrible nerve pain. My hubbie makes me get out of the bed and put on socks and sometimes gloves because I am so cold that he can't stand for me to touch him. Oh well..no new cutsie night clothes for me. He'll have me dressed in coveralls...lol.

I seem to be cold a little more than before and I'm pretty sure my Iron levels are ok. I keep my heater on at work because it's always frigid in here - LOL. If you're alway cold I say wear a sweater, take all of your supplements (with iron) and think warm thoughts!

All the best,

Niki

I wonder if it could have to do with the reduced caloric intake. My understanding is that calories are actually a measure of heat.

Thanks Rootman. The vagus nerve thing is very interesting. I have a hard time imagining it getting much worse! I am near goal so hopefully this is as bad as it will get. Over all I am totally thrilled with my sleeve! Wish I had done it sooner! Would not go back and undo it ever! But I wish I wasn't so darned cold!

Living the dream,

Laura

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
