Started Pre Op Liquid diet today and I NEED support

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm on day # 10 of my pre-op diet. Mine is a little more lax then some. I'm allowed 4 ounces of deli chicken/turkey and 1 cup of cooked vegs a day.. then the normal sugar free pops and drinks and Jello. 3-4 Protein shakes a day as well.. And after day 4, things got much better, I find that I get tired earlier, but overall it hasn't been too bad. I actually save my solid food for the end of the day and substitute 1 Protein shake for Breakfast, and 1 for lunch. I may sip a little broth in the middle of the day, and have another shake mid afternoon if I'm dying. I will say, I'm most of the time hungry, but it has subsided tremendously. My fiance actually asked for a shake for Breakfast the other day, and I gave her a Mocha Atkins shake (my favorite). later in the day i asked her how she liked it, and got a ehh response.. Made me laugh because at this point I find them delicious.. hahaha.. Keep it up, it does get easier.. I half started a week earlier while not going totally pre-op but started substituting meals a week early, and it helped when I had to officially start.

I saw on TV yesterday that fresh apples although healthy have something in them that makes you more hungry.

I have the Whole Foods Market smoothies recipe. A few frozen strawberries, 1/2 frozen banana, and cover with apple juice. Blend in a blender add unflavored protein (I like Whey). No need for ice cause the frozen fruit makes it thick, cold and delicious.

I started my pre-op diet on Monday and didn't get really hungry until Thursday. The only solids I can have are the pieces that get missed by the blender. Cream Soups, Tomato Soup, sugar free Jello, gum, Lifewater, and Vitamin Water sustain me. I'm saving broth for next week when I'm closer to surgery. Most of our hunger is mental so we have to be diligent in our thinking. Sure I had a craving or three but I've invested too much time, money and effort to turn back now. I believe we will all do well.

I've been on the pre-op diet for a week as of today - whew, the third day was so difficult, but now it's no big deal. I'm actually used to it, but I do work at a stressful job so I don't have time to think of food much. It's the pattern of eating that is tough to break - like going through fast food places on my way home to make the drive home go by faster. Now, I call friends on my blue-tooth to make the time go by and get support.

I hope it gets easier for you. WE CAN DO IT!

I really want to make it but I'm also struggling on day 2. I hate the shakes and my place doesn't give you an option. I guess it's good - I'd rather just be hungry than eat that vile stuff and I'm nauseated for about an hour after I force it down. By the time surgery comes, maybe I won't want to eat at all. Maybe this is their master plan? :confused5:

I keep hoping it'll get better. I am trying to skip things that are triggers for me like meetings where they serve food at work. I asked my sister if I can babysit either or both of her kids this weekend because that will keep me too busy to eat.

Checking in here as another pre-opper... i'm on week 2- Mine is a bit more lax as well- because i'm a band to sleeve conversion I'm on an Adkins diet with liquids... so everything has to be only Protein or in liquid form. I am managing (not well) on Protein Shakes, and a lot of lunch meat- I too am feeling quite lethargic (no energy) and tired. I am trying to stay away from the SF Jello and such because I know I will be sick of of it post op- sort of saving that.. I am making some homemade chicken Soup this weekend for broth next week and the meat and veggie's for puree post op-

oh and btw I totally agree on TV commercials. The other night TOTAL torture-- actually sat through a show on donuts.. (I really dont eat them and don't like them) but the guy had 2 krispy creams as Buns for the most amazing cheeze burger ever... I was like on it with my fake taste-vision!! lol.. but it is hard...but I am mustering through this time next week I will be post op YAY!! I know it will have been worth it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
