Peacequeen,

Dr. Weiss is the best in the Bluegrass! He's never had a death and only 1 leak ever (no leaks leaving the hospital, leak occurred 5 days after the patient was released. Leak was mostly due to his weight of 575. Those are the facts he shared) I started my pre-op diet today...so far so good!

On a related (to my last post above) note, how are y'all planning to deal with the inevitable comments about your weight loss? Do you plan to be open about the surgery? Or keep it private?

Sometimes I think I'll be totally open about it. When anyone asks or comments, I'll just say, "Thanks. I had 80% of my stomach removed." I tend to be a pretty matter-of-fact person, so that approach appeals to me a lot. Except then it opens me up to criticism. But do I care? I haven't decided yet.

Or there's the honest but slightly evasive version: "I'm eating less and moving more." But that doesn't quite do it justice.

I guess it'll just depend on context. I hate the idea of having to hide the fact that I had surgery. But, again, it's really not anyone else's business.

Thoughts?

I would just say that I did have some surgery on my stomach to help me lose weight because I want to be healthier. I looked at all the options and this was the right choice for me!

I've been open with many of my colleagues from day one. Many have seen me struggle with my weight over the years. All have been very supportive and very encouraging from the start. I even had a couple of colleagues come up to me to reveal they too had WLS. .

While its no one business I believe in being honest. Besides, I may help someone who is on the fence with getting WLS .

I had surgery today!! Surgeon said it went well.

I have to tell you the first 4-5 hours post op were pretty unpleasant. I was so glad that I have been reading forums so I knew that that it would get better and just did alot positive imagery to help me endure. I walked when I didn't feel like it but but it paid off. I had fierce gas pain coupled with nasuea - but I am getting excellent care and they threw the book at the nasuea and I never puked. I will be going home in the morning!

I am in the odd situation of working from home for a large company. I do go into an office occasionally, but the people I see I don't actually work with. its weird. So I've told two people I work with, but most don't know and won't need to know, because they've never seen me in real life, so by the time I ever meet them, all they will ever know is what i look like at that point. The other people who have seen me, it will probably be enough time that I can just simply say "I lost weight."

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
