TMI- VERY heavy period... normal?

Recommended Posts

TMI warning...

I am about 5 weeks post op. I just started my second post op period yesterday. I normally have a pretty heavy period, especially on day 2 of my cycle . But I woke up this morning to having soaked through my pajamas. I went to the bathroom and pulled down my underwear and blood gushed out of my panties. It was like a bowl of blood poured out onto the floor. It really scared me. I was only asleep for 7 hours; it looked like I had this pad on for 2 days.

I know our hormones are out of whack after surgery, but is this normal? I should note that I haven't felt well the past 3 days. Terrible headaches, not very hungry and tired (I took a 3 hour nap yesterday). Should I be concerned about anything? Anemia? I take a Multi-Vitamin with Iron and a Calcium tablet daily.

Mine are way different now too. I have had three since post op and they are heavier and longer, however not as heavy as that. I would go to the hospital to make sure everything is ok. Maybe a cyst burst or something? Do you have pcos? That just seems like ALOT of blood to me. Do you have any cramping on one side near a specific ovary? I would definately go to the doctor especially with the other symptoms....but then again maybe I'm a baby and go to the doctor for every little problem?

i used to have that pre-op, because i have pcos. i know how terrifying it can be to see that muh blood. have u missed any periods prior to this? my dr. advised me it could be a buid up of things that werent flushed out during the previous months of missed periods but i would check with your gyno or surgeon to see what their experience is with it.

I have had several ovarian cysts rupture over the last several years, but usually those come with horrible cramping and pain. I haven't really had any unusual pain with this. I've never missed any periods and am always right on schedule. Flow seems to be normal now. I guess I was just overreacting this morning from the sight of so much blood. Thanks for the input guys!

i am having a similar issue. My period has always been heavy but i notice that since surgery there is a day or two that is abnormally heavy. I spoke with my doc about it and he said that it's mostly hormonal and the body regulating itself.

I assumed that my period would get lighter but initially I guess it will be heavier at first

My first period right after surgery was horrible. So much bleeding and it went on for like 2 weeks heavy. Then I didn't get it at all for three months and the GYN put me on premarin and provera and I finally got it, that was pretty normal. I just got it again a third time since surgery and it is pretty heavy but not like the first time. I have to say losing that much blood was scary. I would definitely check in with your doctor if it persists or you have pain.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
