I am about a week out from surgery, and as they say each day is getting better and better. Today is my first day of "full liquids" and I had a sugar free carnation instant Breakfast - man that was good! Anyways my question is about the quantity of fluids - so if you are 6 months out or longer, do you still drink you 64oz. of fluids everyday, or are you now able to get some from food?

I was never a huge drinker before, and am doing fine with it, I am just wondering if this is something that will keep forever, or will I be able to back down a little bit?

Absolutely 64 oz or more of fluids!

Twice now I have been "busy" and a little lax on my Fluid intake for the day or two...and I could tell I was irritable, tired, hungry - oh my that is big, I get hungry -- I know some say they have never been hungry again once they got sleeved.

I have, and it could be maybe an hour after eating.. that is my little reminder to get my Water jug filled! LOL!

There are some days I do have to push myself to drink, most days I am o.k... but yes, your body needs those fluids!

I hate Water, always have. I asked the nutritionist why there was a requirement for so much water and she said that when we had our full-size stomachs, we could easily drink and hold a quart of water if we needed to rehydrate fast. With the sleeve, there's no storage, and a few gulps fills us up, so we have to keep drinking all day.

Absolutely yes, it will be preferred for the rest of our lives to consume 64 oz Water MINIMUM. We simply do not get the amount of Water from our foods as we once did. Our stomach are but 15-20% the size it used to be... wow!!

I usually get 100+ oz of water per day (Usually comes out to 128 oz) - however this is because eating relatively low carbs I need to keep flushing those fat calories out of my system... super important to remember this. That is what keeps me going with tons of water. I'll probably drop it down to about 80 oz once I hit goal... but it will be a trial thing. If I feel like it's not enough I'll bump it back up.

Keep in mind right out of surgery and for the first say, 4 months it will feel like a huge chore to get even 64 oz in. It gets a lot easier in time. I get my water in (which probably seems like a huge amount to you right now!!) quite easily.

It gets better, promise!! :)

Well I take the middle ground. YES, drinking a fair amount of Water is healthy, keeps you hydrated and keeps the tummy full, BUT if you are urinating plenty and the urine is clear to JUST tinted yellow then you re getting enough. If you're running to the toilet every hour on the hour - OR MORE - the Water is not doing you much good as you are simply passing it through. Conversely if your urine is dark yellow or brown and comes infrequently then you are not getting enough. You need to drink enough to prevent kidney stones from forming too.

64 OZs is a good goal but little to no harm will come to you if you drink, say, only 32 ozs in a day provided you urinate enough and aren't losing the liquid through diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. YES, it's better to get a little TOO much than not enough but I think too many people put too much emphasis on it.

Beware: IANAD and YMMV

So, im wondering what 64oz. of Water is? How many cups is that? does anyone know?

There are 8oz in a cup, so 8 cups :)

at 2months out now I drink 100-120 OZ a day! I find that days I am low on Water I suffer from severe fatigue and dizziness, alsoI get plenty of stalls if I dont do good on that week of low water intake. But that just me and u need to figure out what works for ur body.

So water is crucial for the minimum amount indicated! just for ur health. If u wanna go the extra mile it will be cause u need it not cause u were told so.

That's the recommended amount of fluids for anyone. I was never a big drinker (well not water) pre-op, but I really try to hit a minimum of 60oz per day of clear fluids. NOW, clear fluids are any fluids that are sugar free, caffeine free so that includes Decaf tea, crystal light, sugar free gatorade, Vitamin Water etc etc.

Now, that I'm pregnant, I have to drink 100oz of Water per day on top of my other fluids, and I weigh half of what I used to weigh pre-op. It's a true challenge to hit those Fluid goals every day, and admittedly I've fallen short by 20-30oz of water, but I try to make up for it with other clear fluids.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
