Hi all,

I'm still pre-op (only for 12 days more, yay!) but I'm posting here because I think I'll get a better response - basically what I want to know is:

What is a 'slider' food?

I have seen this term used a lot and I don't know what exactly it means. It's not a term my NUT uses.

Any help would be appreciated. I feel dumb not knowing.

Thanks!

I think we all refer to slider foods as foods that go down easily, we can eat a lot of them, and they have no nutritional value. In fact, pretty much all bad snack foods that keep you from losing weight, like:

  • Potato chips
  • Popcorn
  • Ice Cream
  • Cake/Cookies
  • Crackers
  • Candy

The healthy stuff like chicken will fill you up very quickly, but these slider foods seem to fit very well in our tiny tummies with no problem!

And make sure you avoid them as good as you can!! They most all have high calorie counts and add up quickly b/c they go in so easily and don't upset your stomach. I got stuck on a potato chip kick for days and it was ugly.

What I understand "slider" foods to be are foods that fit into the sleeve easily because they are soft and not porous and lack Fiber, so that would be anything with a lot of fat and little nutritional value -- like -- ice cream, pudding, Cookies, and last but not least cold pack processed cheese "food" in the container that I ate almost all over during a day the other day before I realized what was happening.

Slider foods go down fast and easy with very little complaint from the stomach but they contain way too many calories to be something you should really be eating.

These vary from person to person. For example an above poster mentioned popcorn -- not a problem for me, I couldn't eat popcorn without a tummy problem before I got sleeve, I haven't even bothered to try to get them in me now. However I've found lighter chips and Snacks to be a problem -- like pirates booty which I can eat a LOT of because there's just really not much to the stuff besides carbs and flavoring.

I wouldn't call pizza a slider food because that crust can get stuck, expand in your esophagus, and shut down the crazy pretty fast. But you might not have any such luck with a malted milkshake.

Thanks all for all your responses! I have a much better idea of what this term means now.

Have a happy holiday weekend!

I always thought of a slider food like a bean burrito. Something you don't chew much and it just slides down. Same as a high calorie shake. Mac n cheese would be a slider food.

This is what I've read too. puddings, ice cream, cream cheese...things that "slide" down the throat. I've also heard of gravy and ranch being used to coat things to make them slide easier.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
