One Month Surgiversary

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm one month out today. What a difference a month makes! I'm 20.8 lbs down and pain free. I'm drinking and eating with big-girl utensils, cups, and plates. I'm exercising almost every day and needing fewer naps. I am so happy I had the operation, but I am really looking forward to being a few more months out, with more lost weight under my belt and a little less swelling in my tummy.

I am soooo tired of eating, drinking, and taking my supplements, but I am slogging through to maintain my health. I'm getting more than 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water per day and averaging 450-550 calories per day. I take all the recommended supplements, except I often forget my mid-day Calcium. I'm not exercising enough, but plan to return to workouts with my trainer next week, which will get me to 5 days per week.

I'm eating about 1.5-2 oz. of protein per meal. I've been sticking with high protein cheeses, poultry, fish, and shellfish. I love fruit and veggies, and I squeeze in 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup per day. Mostly melons, strawberries, green Beans and zucchini. After some early diarrhea I don't use any milk products that are not fermented. That means I'm avoiding cottage cheese and non-fat cheeses that have added whey and milk solids. I tolerate greek yogurt and reduced fat string cheese well. I'm drinking one Protein shake each evening, mixed with 1 cup plain, unsweetened soy milk. I haven't eaten much of other foods I see others having because the protein is not as high as other foods. For example potted meats, refried beans, Peanut Butter, and tofu.

Here's a typical day for me now:

Get up around 6. Start drinking water.

Tuesday and Thursday: Walk with walking group. (Next week I will be with trainer Monday, Wed, and Fri)

9:00: Eat some greek yogurt and a bit of fruit, take supplements.

9:30-1: Putz around, try to get some exercise in doing housework or walking.

12-1: Eat 1.5-2 oz. protein such as lowfat string cheese and 97% fat free ham, chicken thigh meat, or ground turkey. Sometimes I have a saltine cracker too.

2-3: If I've been busy I usually need a mid-afternoon nap.

5-7: Eat dinner of 1.5-2 oz. protein, such as shrimp, scallops, chicken along with another bite or two of fruit or vegetables. Take evening supplements.

9:10: Drink Protein Shake and take last glass of water to bed with me.

July 17 and two month anniversary here I come!!

Lynda

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
