So I told a white lie...

Recommended Posts

I'm starting my new job August 2nd. HR called me this morning and wants me to come in for paperwork. Of course she wanted to make the appt. for 9 a.m Thursday SURGERY DAY. I told her I couldn't come that day because I was having a procedure done. She then says "If you don't mind me asking, what kind of surgery are you going to have." I was so taken aback that she asked that, especially with her being in HR. I blurted out "hernia repair". I'm betting during the VSG surgery I'll have a hernia repaired so I guess thats why I said it.

I feel bad. I didn't want to tell them I'm having WLS...simply because its none of their business. I should of kept my mouth shut from the beginning, but I didn't know what to tell a new employer about why I couldn't come the day they needed me to for ppw. UGH. So I'm here confessing it to y'all.

Don't let it bother you! I agree with you, the HR lady shouldn't have asked. :P

Hey, don't worry about it. You are right, she shouldn't have asked to begin with. If I'm right, it's even illegal to ask that. But the hernia story is perfectly ok. As you said, you just might have it, too. And your recovery will be about the same, so no one will be the wiser. Ticks me off that she even asked you that.

Hey, if they have the nerve to ask about your weight loss after the fact, you can just say, well while they were in there fixing the hernia, they noticed my stomach was enlarged and decided to remove 85% of it. Lol that will catch them off guardbiggrin.gif

I think in this case two wrongs did make a right. HR should know better to NOT ask you and you may also get a hernia repair. Nobodys business what is going on with you.

I also told most of my work colleagues that I was having surgery to repair a hernia (which was true). I had been having severe stomach issues related to the hernia in the weeks prior to surgery (TMI Alert - I was leaving meetings to vomit) so this explanation was readily accepted. Only a few people (including my direct supervisor) knew about the WLS. Since I have lost a considerable amount of weight some people might have put the two things together by now. Who knows!

They have absolutely no right to ask - legally or ethically! Next time someone is being nosy, tell them something completely insane like you are having a 3rd nipple removed, that should shut them up.:P

It wasn't even legal for her to ask that. You didn't break the law, so you shouldn't be the one feeling guilty. White lies are a part of life. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
