Hello everyone, I just found this website...seems pretty awesome! Have a question....Has anyone else out there had a hard time getting in all their fluid/protein the first few days after being sleeved? I am literally forcing myself to drink, but if i take too big of a sip it hurts going down. its not excruciating pain but is uncomfortable. This WILL go away right?

Hi Ruthie - first of all, welcome! :)

Yes, I have trouble getting in all of my Protein and fluids as well, and yes, if you take too big of a drink it will hurt - just sip sip sip - do the best you can on your fluids and Protein and with each week it will start to get easier to get in.

Ruthie...I second what Michelle said! It DOES get better and it is normal to be a bit uncomfortable swallowing right now. You still have a lot of swelling from the surgery so try to drink very small sips. Someone mentioned on this board to let the Fluid go over the top of your lip before sipping to reduce air so I tried that during the first few weeks. It may have helped or maybe it just slowed me down enough trying to do the awkward maneuver that I swallowed my small sips more slowly! :o

You also mentioned Protein and I wouldn't worry if you don't get all of your Protein in the first week...just focus on keeping hydrated. Good luck!!:D

i was not allowed anything to drink for the first two days post sleeve, just the drip.

i was extremely nauseous anyway.

the third day, i think i might have managed about 2 cups of tepid tea in 24 hours....

then onto pure liquids for 2 weeks, no Proteins.

from what i've read in this forum i have gathered that this is not the standard in the us. (i've had my sleeve done in europe.)

the hardest thing i've had to do was crush prescription medicine and mix with Water and drink up. this causes severe nausea and burning feelings. absolute hell. still i have managed to keep it down so far. my trick is simple: drink up, wait the required 10 mins before i can lay down. go to bed and sleep it off as fast as possible. my prescription only exists in pill form. thank god it's tiny or else....

Everyday does get easier. At first I was only doing a few ice chips every 5 minutes. Then 1 oz every 15 minutes. Now, I am 11 days out and can take BIG drinks. I have no restrictions with liquids at all! They go down very well and that makes me :D !!

Good luck!

I just had the surgery on Thursday, and haven't seen or had any problems. I was on ice chips until the leak test, and full liquids after that. I have been training myself to do the small sips. I found myself doing too big or sips, so I still put the same amount in my mouth, but only swallow half or part of it and swallow the rest in parts to make small sips. My problems are that I get the gas bubbles every time I drink and it isn't the most comfortable feeling. I hope it gets easier or less ticklish :).

It was the 3rd day after surgery before I could get 64 oz in. And that was drinking while I was up with my insomnia or I think it would have been longer. Hope all goes well for you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
