Hey guys I had my surgery on 3.7 and today I have a horrible sour stomach today. Not to be horribly gross I keep burping up this horrible tasting gas. I did have a Protein shake this morning made with 1% milk and I had a Greek yogurt for lunch.

Any ideas?

Probably excess acid. Beware of taking Calcium carbonate tablets though (Tums) as it and dehydration may lead to kidney stones.

Try another type of acid reducer. A Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) (Prilosec ) is going to be your best bet as it actually reduces the mount of acid rather than just neutralizes it.

spoke to the doctor's office and they told me the reason for the sour stomach is my stomach is holding on to something. Did not think that was possible on mushies....before surgery my stomach held everything and my thighs too...lol sorry had to throw in a giggle factor....thank you for the help will be picking up some ppi today after work...

It could also be lactose intolerance as well. I know it went beserk for me post op. Try using Lactaid instead for your dairies and see if that helps.

Our stomach get really super sensitive after surgery, and what worked before may not work now.

Good luck!!

Dr Aceves suggested to take a PPI (I take Nexium) for 6 months as the stomach makes acid as if your whole stomach was there and the PPI helps it heal.

I was lactose intolerant before surgery, so I still have that problem. Do you know if it is ok to take Lactaid only 2 weeks out? I have not asked Dr. Aceves yet, just wondered if you knew since you had problems also.

Thanks!!

You know, I never really needed to ask Dr, A about this because I didn't even realize I was lactose intolerant until I was well into my solids phase. I was released to eat anything so I just switched to the Lactaid Milk instead of regular milk. I do not take the pills, because its really milk I have the issue with. I have not had any issues with yogurts/cheeses/etc. I of course haven't even attempted ice cream, way too scared too!!!

Sorry I couldn't be more help... I'm sure they will answer your email quickly. I believe Gaby is the one to ask, she is the post op patient coordinator (not sure if you knew that). Let me know if you need her info...

Good luck!!!

Thanks Diva, I did get a response back from Gaby and she said Dr. A said it was ok to take the lactaid pills, so I will try that. I am going to start the lactaid milk, too.

Thanks again!smile.gif

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
