plication sleeve sutures or vertical sleeve staples

Recommended Posts

I'd like to hear from people who have had either one of these procedures done and see which one is user recommended? I'm having the plication sleeve on April 4th, but I'm now having second thoughts and thinking I might want to have the vertical sleeve instead to do away with the hunger triggers that got me here in the first place..any advice? Also, does anyone know what happens to the part of the stomach that is folded and then sutured? Does it shrink up?

Thanks!

I don't know much about the plication, but I will say this. When I had the lapband, I was still very obsessed with food. Nothing really changed for me and I was hungry all the time. Now with the ghrelin way reduced from my sleeve, I don't feel controlled by food anymore. I am in control. I eat to live and I am very satisfied on a small amount. I am also not really hungry. Keep researching. I hope others will chime in!

I had the sleeve, the hunger being gone was very important to me as it seemed I would no sooner get done eating and I was thinking what was next. Now since the sleeve I could go all day without hunger. I do get a sense of needing something when it has been too long, but that crazy ravenous gotta eat now hunger is gone!

You may want to post this on the Total Gastric Plication board. I had the lapband for almost 10 years and just revised to gastric plication. So far, the plication has been great! My recovery was fairly easy - I was in the hospital for 1 night, no drains, 5 small incisions and I was home the next day. I've lost 23 pounds in 1 month. I also researched the sleeve which was my 2nd choice if the plication hadn't worked out. I would not consider the RNY because I have severe anemia. Good luck with whichever procedure you choose.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
