Christmas gift---Keurig Coffee/Tea Maker

Recommended Posts

My parents gave me a Keurig coffee Maker for Christmas. I used to love all coffees and flavored teas. I haven't drank them much lately and went for about 6 weeks without any caffiene. I have set this machine up and ordered various k-cups and am now drinking this through the day. Coffee in the morning and tea later in the day. It has helped me get my fluids in because I am constantly sipping all day. I don't drink the cups that have sugar in them. I also am using a sugar free lowfat Creamer with some of the coffee and sometimes just skim milk which has Protein in it..

My question is this.....should I be doing this? I really love this new machine and it is so handy for getting my fluids in. But am I doing more harm than good? Just wondering what you think. I think since I am enjoying all of these drinks, I am feeling guilty like I shouldn't be doing this.

My doc just says watch the caffein, and the acid early on. We are not supposed to drink any coffee or caffeinated tea a month before surgery....trying to avoid ulcers.

We got one as a gift as well and I am loving it! I have never been an every day coffee drinker but enjoy it on occasion (didn't even have a coffee machine prior to this one.) I am only 5 weeks out and sticking to the Decaf cups for now. There isn't as much variety in decaf but I know it's better for me as of right now.

I've been brewing a cup, (brews at 150 degrees) adding a small amount of unsweetened soy milk, (this adds afew grams of Protein and brings the temp down to 130 so the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury wont clump) then adding a scoop of Unjury chocolate splendor and it is AMAZING.

The UNJURY is truly the only Protein powder that doesn't taste bad and this method makes it even tastier. :-)

I've had zero problems with acid but I know other say to ease in to coffee and tea due to it's acidity. Someone else maybe able to give more incite on why exactly...

:-)

I got my parents one for Christmas! My mom loves it because my dad gets up and leaves house early for work and by the time she gets up to have coffee it was always lukewarm and she would either have to micro it or make a new pot and waste it. Now he pops his in and out the door, she gets up picks her flavor and has it ready in a minute. I think I need to get one now!

I am almost 5 months post op and I still get a bit of a burning acidy tummy when I drink coffee, especially if I get a vanilla latte. Occasionally though I can drink some and it is fine, it is so random. I think as long as you are not loading it up with sugar and it isn't bothering you as long as it is a moderate amount it shouldn't hurt. If the scale is continuing to go the right direction you should be good!

For those who have the Keurig coffee Maker. My husband is wanting one and tonight on my research, I am see a lot of bad reviews of weak coffee and that the machine does not last. Your thoughs as this is not a cheap machine and I dont want to waste my money on something that breaks down quickly. Thanks.

Hello, I've had my Keurig since early or mid-November 2010 and we have used it almost everyday since for tea (k-cup or teabag) and coffee and we have had absolutely no problems out of it. I love it! I have never dranked this much coffee. My reason for purchasing was similar to a couple of posts above about the coffee being made early and then by the time I'm ready for my cup it was lukewarm or my husband made it too strong. This is great, because we each can have it the way we like, no messy filters/coffee grinds to deal with. Really quite simple to operate and maintain so far.

I don't like the Keurig because you can't make strong Decaf coffee in large cups.

If you use a large cup, it's weak. If you use a small cup you have to make 2 or 3.

It's a defect in the concept as the amount of coffe in each k-cup can't be varied.

I use an auto-espresso maker and put a double shot in an 12-ounce cup.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
