Weight loss stopped

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Dec 13. With the two weeks of liquids and the post op diet, I lost 27 pounds. Then as of Dec 24, I stopped losing. I am the same weight today. I have continued on liquids, basically two 30 gram Protein Shakes a day and Soup. By my count, I am taking in about 500-600 calories a day. I started back on the treadmill to increase my activity, but so far that hasn't worked. I am getting depressed. I feel like I have the metabolism of a geriatric earthworm! Any one else have this problem?

I was sleeved Dec. 6th and I lost a total of 25 pounds from Nov. 29th. I have not lost any weight since week 2. I'm not gaining but I am not losing either. I have been on liquids and cream Soups since week 2. I've read this is normal and it will get better. I start mushy foods at the end of this week and I will start some cardio Monday so I hope it starts moving down again.

Good luck and don't give up!

You are just in "catch up mode" your body is trying to figure out what the heck you are doing to it. Stall, plateau, whatever you want to call it ...happens to everyone at some point and happens multiple times to most people. Hang in there, keep doing your surgeon's plan and it will start moving down again!!

Hey Chrisk,

try not to worry too much Mommy2girls is spot on... at 2 1/2 weeks post op I stall for three weeks... it as like my body said 'Oi what the hell is going on here... what have you done to me?'

It does get better and you will start to see the scale move again... Have you taken measurements? I did this and where there were weeks of no actual weight loss ,I still lost inches.

I have come to realise that stalls are going to be part of my journey and I try not to stress over them when they appear.

Good luck and don't be too disheartened =]

I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one who has stalled-out. It's so discouraging, and I'm becoming more and more depressed about it. It may be normal, but I still can't get that to compute in my brain. My husband says I'm getting smaller, but I want to see it on the scale too, darn it! I stalled-out at 34 pounds a little over a week ago. I'm hoping that once I go back to work after the holidays, I'll be more active, and the losing will jump-start itself again.

About 95% of WLS patients stall between 3-6 weeks out, it's so common that it's expected, and some even see a slight gain.

Your body is pissed off, it's just "waking" up from surgery, and trying to figure out what you've done to it. Plus, it's living on 1/3 of what it used to so it's going to hold on to everything you put in it. Stay the course, and you will lose. When you increase exercise, increase fluids, remember you're building muscle as well, and a pound is a pound be it a pound of fat, or a pound of muscle.

Take measurements, and remeasure in a month, you'd be amazed by the inches lost even if the scale has dropped drastically. Plus, it's not realistic for us to continue to lose 10-15lbs a week. If it were possible, we'd all be at goal within 2-4 months, and it's just not feasible.

Thank you all for your responses. I think I needed someone else to tell me it is normal. Taking measurements is a great idea. I will consider this all part of the journey.

We could go into all kinds of possible reasons why your body is doing what it is doing, but the bottom line is that it doesn't matter. You are fine. You are experiencing what most of us do, and it passes. I've grumbled about slow weight loss and little stalls since about the 3rd week after my surgery, but look at my ticker. What in the world do I have to complain about? We all get frustrated and scared when the scale doesn't budge. Try your best to ignore it, follow the guidelines, and trust the process.

You are gonna be great!

Patient is probably not our strong suit. I know when i decide to something i want to go 0 to 60, NOW! I do hope you find some joy during this time you are stalled. Good luck it will come look at all this support that tells you it will.

I I feel like I have the metabolism of a geriatric earthworm! Any one else have this problem?

I love it..."metabolism of a geriatric earthworm"...I was sleeved Dec 1st and also experienced a major slow down. We did take my measurements prior to surgery so we did that again and I found that I had lost 21.25 inches all over. Holy Cow. The scale started moving again but it is slow but it is moving (bad habit of weighing several times a day). I don't always see in the mirror the lost but my Husband is saying the muffins and rolls in the back are way smaller. I know "patient is a virture" but I want it now. :P But I will lose maybe not as fast as others but I am getting smaller. Don't be discourage it will happen.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
