Just a quick note to the board. Tomorrow I fly to LA for my tenure track interview.

I was worried about having this surgery only three weeks before the interview. Wow, I'm really glad that I did it. Just like you all said, eating won't be a problem (and no one will even notice that I'm hardly eating at the faculty dinners), and the extra confidence that comes from being almost 30 lbs lighter is going to make a huge difference.

I wouldn't have taken this leap without the information that's on this board, so I want to thank you all for your posts.

Guys, so interview was a success. I don't think that anyone had a clue about the surgery, or at least if they did it wasn't so obvious that they needed to mention it. I did have to explain that I didn't eat breads and carbs, but I guess that they took it with ease (it was LA, after all). I was able to buy a suit at Nordstroms for the occasion (size 50, I think that they go to 52 there, and the guy told me that there wasn't a ton of selection at that size). But the suit looked great on, and gave me a lot of confidence.

It was very, very hard to get enough Water, enough food, and certainly enough Protein given the 14 hours per day of interviews or social events. We sleevers eat SO slow, and everyone assumes that you're done, when you are actually just taking a break so that you don't overfill. And honestly, I think that I got quite sick because of it, but the interview went excellent, and I don't believe that 30 lbs. heavier, that it would have gone as well. So, thanks again.

Glad everything went so well!

I have been surprised about how little people care about what is on MY plate. They are all concerned about their own food and hardly take a moment to look at my plate. I have fooled several people about what or how much I'm eating. Thanksgiving dinner, dinner out with friends, several parties. And so far not one single comment about what is on my plate. (Sometimes I take more food than I know I can possibly eat just to have my plate look normal, but most people don't follow me to the trash and examine what I'm tossing!) I feel a teeny bit guilty about throwing food away, but I'm happier that it is in the trash instead of extra lbs on my body. Then that way I don't need to talk about if I'm dieting or whatever.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
