Could I ask you a question?? I am 5'5" and weigh 230. What made you decide to do VGS instead of RNY? My insurance approved RNY and it just got postponed so now I'm thinking maybe I should do VGS because of malabsorption??

Yes, I was approved for the VSG. NO problems at all with the insurance and I was a borderline case! From what I've read on this board, though, it all comes down to your insurance carrier and what your company has chosen. The very nice lady at BCBS told me that while Blue Cross normally denies, TRS opted to include bariatric surgery. Good luck!

Well, I'm 5'9 & 230. So, the bypass wasn't a consideration for me---no interest in the malabsorption & was afraid of 100+ pounds. 95 is my goal, but haven't been 135 in years, may look better at 145 at 43!

I was considering the lap band & my surgeon & his internist really think the sleeve is a better option. Once I started reading about the complications with bands & saw how many revisions were done, it seemed like a no brainer!

Gotcha! Thank you for your feedback. I think I made the right choice...just getting cold feet. Good luck to you on your surgery!

I have a few questions for you mine was submitted wednesday, and I have BCBS TX PPO.. What doctor are you seeing? Congratulations on your approval!!!!!!!! :)

Hi there. I just found this forum last night, so this is the first time I've posted. I am also a teacher and have BCBS TX and I didn't have any problem getting approved. I had the sleeve surgery on Nov. 29th, so I am about 2 weeks out. I am 5'3" and weighed 265 on the day of surgery. I had an original BMI of 53% with several co-morbidities (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholersterol). They originally approved me for the Bypass, but after talking it over with my regular doctor and my surgeon (Dr. Kenneth Barnes with Baylor in FW and Dallas), we decided that the Sleeve was a better option for me. I'll be honest and tell you I was scared to death going in, but I survived the surgery and all if going pretty well. Good luck on your journey. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I don't know if I can answer them all, but I'll try.

I have BCBS TRS Active Care. I have a 5000.00 Copay for the sleeve surgery. Does anyone know if they will finance the copay in office?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
