Hi guys! Just introducing myself...

Recommended Posts

Hi:smile1:

I have been looking into WLS for some time now. A couple years ago, I was seriously looking into RNY, because that and the lapband were my only options through insurance. I was very disappointed though because I knew in my heart I wanted VSG. I had kind of resigned myself to thinking this was no longer an option, BUT I just found out a few days ago that my insurance now covers it! YEAH! So I have just kind of been studying up on everything again, and getting really excited. I am 5'6" weigh 242 lbs.(don't know how, but I lost 10 pounds?) I figure I have around 100 pounds to lose. I have a large frame, so I may not actually even get that low. I will be happy with anything below 200 at this point. My body HURTS! I also have High blood pressure, but luckily that is it so far. I know it will soon get much worse if I don't do something about it. I am glad to have found this site, and look forward to learning a lot from you all. I have a WLS Seminar to attend mid October, and then for my pre-op appointments. With the feedback I have received from others with my insurance and surgeon, it will take roughly 2 months from the date of the seminar until surgery. So I am thinking December? I am really excited to be starting this journey, and much LESS nervous than when I thought I was going to have RNY. So that is a good thing. Sorry this is so long. Nice to meet you all!

Hailey

Welcome, Hailey! And for me, let me tell you VSG is a wonderful thing! You won't regret choosing it! I was roughly at your exact height and weight (5'7", 250) Had sleeve 6/2 and since then have lost 56 lbs. Some days you struggle to find the "right food" mix for you and that improves as you go along. It has been such a life changing thing for me. I'm sure it will be for you too!!!!

Thank you! Good luck to you too Lisa! I don't know about you, but despite why people may think it would be more difficult getting surgery near Christmas (Sweets and Cookies galore lol!) I think it will be a nice cozy time of year to do it:) Nice and relaxing. So yeah for us! :lol0:

Welcome Hailey

You'll soon find that you will love this site. Without question, everyone here is friendly , informative, and willing to offer support in any way.

It's really great having so many good people to help clarify things, answer questions, and share their experiences.

I am working towards the Vertical Sleeve procedure, and the support I have received here has been GREAT. I extend the same to you.

If you're interested, one fantastic resourse is "You Tube", which has given me a visual sense of whats ahead of me.

There is one short film clip that really helped me to understand the procedure.

On You Tube, if you enter "Vertical Sleeve" in the browser, it will direct you to a number of videos. The best one in my opinion is entitled "Laprascopic Vertical Sleeve Gasterectomy" posted by Dr. Pleatman. This explained a lot to me. If interested, check it out.

Once again, Welcome and good luck on what will be a fantastic journey.

Hi Hailey, we are the same height and I was a similar weight to you at the beginning. VSG has solved all my weight problems and I can sincerely recommend it to you. Good luck with it all.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
