Juicing Veggies and Fruits

Recommended Posts

I bought this awesome juicer about a month ago, cause I was having trouble with fresh fruits and veggies going bad. I wanted the nutrition that they have to offer, but I could only eat 1 or 2 stalks of broccoli, OR 1/4 c of fruit. Not together, and not very much. My husband hates most veggies, so they just went bad. Yes, I know, frozen is just as if not more nutritious as fresh, but the point is....I wanted the nutrition of veggies.

So my friend suggested a juicer. She has been using hers for years, and loves it. I went to Kohls and bought one on sale. I LOVE THE TASTE OF JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING I PUT IN IT !!! I also get the entire carrot, a full serving of broccoli, or other veggie I put in it...and can even put 5 different veggies in to make sure I get my '5 a day'. I usually put 1/4 c berries in my morning Protein shake, but now i'm thinking mix up 3 fruits and add my Protein to it.

Anyone else try this ???

I log my food on fitday.com and found that my carbs are still in the 40 - 50 range for the day.

Yea...I'm thinking that I need to do this on a daily basis. My Dr. called this morning and said my labs were in. I'm low on Vit D (again !!!) and Vit A.

I'm sure that juicing these veggies (tomatoes, spinach, zucchini, carrots, cucumber and apple...my favorite) will help with the Vit A. I never suspected to be low on that one.

1/2 cup of FRESH carrot juice has 450% of the RDA of Vitamin A. And it's far more readily absorbed than from a pill.

I've been juicing for a long time and even though they don't taste great - I focus on greens. There are certain things - like cabbage, that have really important enzymes but you have to drink immediately after juicing to get the benefit.

By the way, I think you're familiar with Dr. Mercola, correct? I have been struggling with my Vitamin D level for YEARS! My nutritionist has me taking 50,000 once a week and then 10,000 IU per day. (I have the Carlson 10,000 IU capsules so it's easy to do). My level went from 12 to 30 after doing this for about six months and I could never get it above 30! I bought this little Vitamin D spray from Mercola - it's 1000 IU per spray and I take 6 sprays per day. I was taking it for only about two weeks and never even considered that I might do something but I had my levels tested last week and I'm at 60!!! First time I've ever tested above 30. Not sure if it's a mistake or if my body is absorbing this spray better than it ever did the other stuff! Amazing! My sister has low levels as well (20s) and I had her start using the spray so she can go get tested in a few weeks so I guess I'll know for sure then.

VST addict--did Dr. Aceves do the plication or regular sleeve? I was checking out his clinic on line, and it sounds like people think he is great, but, there is'nt that "Center of Excellence" designation like Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. How did you decide on him? I am a self pay, but will not make this decision to save a few bucks.

I will have to try that. My Vit D was a 12.

Just a note on Dr. Aceves, they think highly enough of him in the US to invite him to speak to a convention of physicians in Florida in may I think it was. I had my surgery with him and they just emailed me to fill out a questionare so he could take the results to the conference when he speaks. I think that is pretty cool considering he is from "mexico" and people in the US never consider going outside for surgery. I loved him and would return in a heartbeat.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
