Booked for 8/28 with Dr Aceves

:) Anyone else going to be there during that time?

I'm nervous, excited, anxious, but know deep down this is right for me.

I told my PCP today, and she wasn't too happy, and she kinda tried to make me feel unprepared. But she admittedly stated she knew nothing about VSG, and she was concerned that if there really is a problem from the surgery, there would be no doctor (surgeon) to actually fix a complication. She did say should would run labs and order any other tests that might be necessary, but anything surgical she was unsure that I would find support. (I'm trying not to buy into that)

My main focus has to be on pre & post op changes, mainly eating/drinking properly. I'm so afraid I will do something wrong.

One thing I thought was odd, was the Dr.Aceves requested I stop taking wellbutrin prior to surgery and my PCP says I shouldn't. And I do want to stay on it to help with the emotional changes happening now and going forward. I read that other thread about it and I think it will be okay to stay on it, maybe just skip the day of surgery. She even gave me a different script for quick release, instead of extended release.

I went off both Prozac and Wellbutrin cold turkey before surgery, and have not missed them, and don't need them post-op. Now every situation is different, and I'm not offering medical advice, I'm just sharing my situation. After the surgery my mind felt clearer and I was more energetic and optimistic, at least so far. It depends on your state of mind. I had been on those meds for years, and I think I had just moved past them, and it was time to get off. I don't have the stress in my life that I used to when they were prescribed. But just in case your doc says "no wellbutrin", know that it can be done.

I have also taken Wellbutrin in the past when I was going thru my divorce about 6 1/2 years ago and I too knew when it was time to come off and took myself off cold turkey. I am a registered nurse and we nurses tend to be our own doctor but I didnt have any side effects from coming off of it and my PCP didnt either. Hope this helps.

Hi Sleevesearch!

I am scheduled with Dr. Aceves for 08-27, so you and I will be there together!

I'm glad I have found someone who will be there at the same time as me!

I would email Dr. Aceves' office back and find out when it is acceptable for you to discontinue the meds. My husband was on it and I know his doc didn't want him coming off cold-turkey due to the risk of seizures, etc. Find out if it is okay to just stop the day of/before surgery. That is a tricky thing...trying to balance what the PCP wants and side-effects of coming off abruptly and what the surgeon wants.

I'm scheduled with Aceves for the 27th too!! I'm glad there will be a few people there from this forum.

You and I will probably be riding from the airport together on the 26th:thumbup1:

That is awesome! I'm on my iPhone right now, but will send you a friends request when I get home! I found out yesterday that there were only 2 people scheduled for 8-27 including me and thought the chances of finding the other person was slim!

Are you traveling alone or is someone coming with you? My hubby is coming with me.

I'm getting so excited!

I'm getting excited also...or nervous LOL I think it's a bit of both! I can't believe we are the only 2 scheduled and we found each other, small world! My mother is going with me, I don't think I could've gone alone; I have 2 young children so my husband has to stay with them.

I can't wait and I'm freaking out trying to get all the loose ends tied up:scared0: I'm sure before I know it we will be done and on the way home WOOT WOOT!!

I'd send a friend request but I don't know how on here:confused1: so I'll wait for you to do it:)

I may also be having VSG with Dr. Aceves on Sat Aug 28. I am trying to make flight arrangements tonight and pay the deposit tomorrow if I am successful. Will you be flying to San Diego?

Congrats to all that will be there for surgery. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. I was really impressed with Dr. Aceves and his whole staff.

Good Luck to all.

No, I will be traveling alone. My husband and I debated back and forth but I think I have decided to go alone.

Oh yeah I know I am so excited. I start my 7 day pre-op on Friday, 30 carbs 70 protein. Where do I find your name so I will know who to look for as I am still new at this?
