ive been eating popcorn almost everyday for the past week- im at 6 weeks. I thought it would be painful and get stuck- nope, it actually was one of the easiest things to digest that i have eaten. If you think about it, put popcorn in some Water and watch what it does- it basically turns to mush. It moves through easily and actually is a higher Fiber snack that is lower in calories than most (except for movie theater butter, which is wonderful on it's special occasions. So far the easiest foods for me to eat aside from mushies have been popcorn, pretzels and baked lays.

Oh, the type of popcorn i buy is ACT 2 94% fat free. It's much less expensive than Orville Redenbachers and the 94% fat free flavor for Orville has almost no butter flavor at all. My tip- get spray butter (Parkay or I can't believe it's not butter spray), lightly spray and add a packet of Hidden Valley ranch seasoning to it and toss the bag around. It's amazing! I have found that it is one of the only carb foods that doesn't spike my blood sugar, and helps keep me regular.

How did eating popcorn at the movies go for you? I'm a month post op and I'm going to the movies tomorrow.

I ate popcorn much earlier out than I probably should have, but never had any problems from it. It is a slider for me. I can eat a whole big bag of it but I keep it to the light variety. At the movies you should go by how fast you feel full, it will fill you up faster being that they add butter to the popcorn. (or ask for no butter).

I'm kind of surprised that you're all having an easy time with the popcorn - it looks terrifying to me right now.

It looked terrifying to me as well, and i was sure the first time i ate it that i would get sick. Nope. Do this- pop some popcorn then put a cup in a bowl that has a little Water at the bottom. Or sprinkle some Water on top. You will see how it shrivels up into "mush", when you have some liquid in your stomach it is surprisingly easy to digest. I wouldn't recommend eating it without a drink of course, but who can eat salty popcorn without a drink? :)

I have to say I did pretty good with popcorn. I had it with butter..but few hand fulls during the movie and I was satisfied!

Thats good to hear! It only takes a few handfuls when you get the "real" experience at the movie theater! But it makes a great low cal snack at home, the light butter microwave bags make a great snack for movie nights at home, and you can do a lot less damage with popcorn than by munching on other snacks!

I don't think the concern is the popcorn itself but the small pieces of the kernel. Most surgeons ask that you don't eat seeds or things of that nature until three months because your stitch line has not completely healed. Obviously this is your call, but the relevance isn't whether or not it doesn't make you sick or not, but how it effects your stomach.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
