Paulax,

I'm here all by my self! I keep thinking "I'm such a strong person", but deep down i really wish someone were here :( Too bad there really wasn't anyone to bring. Oh well :) Earlier i was thinking, wow, I'm in a foreign country by myself, I should do something crazy, like get a piercing or a tattoo or something, and then i remembered- I'm having surgery! Crazy enough :bananapartyhat:

I can relate. I was there all alone too. I really wish they had a meet and greet pre-arranged. It's not like we have "lapbander" tee shirts on! I was so depressed and feeling wimpy after surgery also...and I am about as social a person as there is. I went shopping alone...which stinks, and walking alone, and the thing is, I know there were people there who I could have or would have gone with---if I'd just been given their name and room number! We're all in this together!:phanvan

Lizzilo - I was thinking about you as I wandered the mall today. Has anyone checked your uric acid? Is your big toe red and swollen? I'm wondering about gout.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Thanks for thinking of me! I thought it was gout too, and it would just go away, but I had some x-rays and turns out there is no cartilage in my toe joint and my bone was inflamed with a spur - yuck! :( It is slowly going now. Of course my mother in convinced it is gout and the dr. and x-rays are wrong - drama queen!

Finally I have had a pain free day. I woke this morning feeling really good. I didn't have any pain anywhere. WOW But after a trip to the grocery store I was worn out. I have been taking it easy the rest of the day but still no pain. I don't want to over do.

What do you guys eat for your mushies?

Beth

I can tell you that the fills do not hurt, I have an intrathecal pump implanted, right near my port site, and this pump requires fills. It's just a little pinch. What happens is the doc goes in with the needle and pulls out the old medicine from my pump and then reinserst a needle with a new mix. With the lapband, it's pretty much the same. I think it varies if the doc pulls out Fluid first or not, it may depend on each persons situation. Once again, i have not had a fill for the lapband, but the pain pump is simuliar to it. Just a pinch, really.

I had a shot of reality today - went on a road trip to meet up with some girls I've gotten to "know" on a scrapbooking web site. I'm down 31.6 lbs as of last Wednesday, but when I got stuck in the front for a group picture, and they posted it for everyone to see tonight, there I was smack in the front and looking so big! I felt so good, too! I notice in the mirror that my face is thining, and my clothes are feeling a bit different, but to see me sitting there was so depressing, like I'm not getting anywhere...

That was pretty hard to see - they know I had the surgery and how I'm doing, but they've never seen me before in person. Their shock was that my hair was highlighted with blonde streaks and in my avatar (the same one I use here) I have my natural brown hair. In that avatar I am about 30 lbs less than I am now, so it's a mini goal to look like that again. Anyway, I'm going to keep on keepin' on and hope that someday I won't cringe when I see a picture of me!

Hey Steph,

I know that it's hard looking at pictures for me, in general. I always say "do i really look like that"? It expecially upsets me when i leave the house thinking I'm looking really good and that i, for sure, found the most slimming thing i own. Then I see the pictures and look at me, the blob, and sometimes i just cry because I'm so mad at myself that i look that way. Sometimes i get in the frame of mind that I was just in a size 12 a little while ago. LOL then 14, then 16 and now a 18 and then boom a picture comes along to put me back into reality.. that yes.. I am an 18.

Anyway, i just want to wish you a word of encouragement. I agree with Jen, it takes awhile to get there and it will be awhile to take it off. Just think of what that picture would have looked like if you had not lost the 31.6 pounds that you've already melted away. This will be one of those pics you can compare yourself to later, when you go and meet up again, take another.. and so on. Pretty soon you'll be lost in the crowd. Be positive and keep your chin up. The weight is coming off, not being packed on. You have done an excellent job! Keep it up! Best of luck to you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
